The first of two Tyrolean derbies within 48 hours went to the Füchse from Bozen. HC Innsbruck fought their way into overtime in the final period, led by an outstanding Matt Wilkins, but there Brad McClure made the decision in favor of the Foxes.
In the Tyrol derby, HCB Südtirol Alperia narrowly prevailed against bottom-placed HC TIWAG Innsbruck 5-4 after extra time. It was the South Tyroleans’ eighth derby victory in a row. Player of the evening was Matt Wilkins, an HCI player. The striker scored all four of the Tyrolean goals: 1:0 (6th), 2:3 (41st/PP2), 3:3 (46th) and 4:4 (55th). Goalie Matthew Vernon also impressed for the home team with 44 saves. In extra time, however, he had no chance when Brad McClure shot, meaning Bozen secured the extra point. For McClure it was the second goal of the evening after he had previously scored the 3-1 for Bolzano. Both teams will face each other again in Bolzano on Friday. In the table, the South Tyroleans are only one point behind third-placed Salzburg.
