For Thimo Nickl, everything is currently focused on the Champions Hockey League. The EC-KAC defender is visiting KalPa with his team in Finland today and sees a great opportunity in the international games.
“We have the chance to qualify for the knockout phase,” the 23-year-old said decisively to the “Kleine Zeitung”. “The CHL offers valuable, international experience that every young and older player can take with them. The club is also represented on this stage. We don’t just want to follow suit, we also want to play along.”
Nickl, who has become a real constant in defense since his return to Klagenfurt, has impressed with strong performances. “It’s fun. I’m happy with how things are going for me,” he says. “It’s important that you stay true to your role and fulfill your tasks. If you start trying things that don’t suit you, you quickly lose focus. Only those who grow with their tasks can develop further.”
His strong performances do not go unnoticed internationally. After five years abroad – including in North America and Sweden – Nickl does not rule out returning there. “I was away for five years. A few seasons didn’t go as planned. So I would really like to prove myself abroad again,” says the defender openly. Although his contract with the KAC runs until 2027, it contains an exit clause.
