The encounter between Köttern II and Kappel had to be canceled after 40 minutes on January 20th.
After the second third, the situation escalated when Kappel’s goalkeeper Jan Benyr checked a Köttern player and then provoked him on the Köttern bench. “He collided with our goalie Dominik Dietrichsteiner,” Köttern chairman Erich Stepsser told the “Crown newspaper“. In the mass brawl that followed, Benyr seriously attacked Dietrichsteiner, who was injured in the eye socket area and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. “It was swollen and bloodshot. It was horrible,” said Stepsser.
The association imposed a total of eleven game-long penalties, Benyr was suspended for three games and Dietrichsteiner for two. Köttern is dissatisfied with this decision: “The relationship is not right!”
Kappel then canceled another game due to a lack of players. Chairman Wolfi Huber did not want to comment in more detail: “We are still sorting out all the association’s decisions.”
In terms of sport, the Nockberge made positive headlines. Despite the snowfall, they beat Köttern II 5-2 and took a big step towards the Final Four. “But to do that they would have to beat table leaders Althofen II twice – that’s probably not possible,” said Nockberge boss Peter Zürcher with a view to the competition. The final tournament will take place on February 21st and 22nd in Althofen.
