AlpsHL preview: The league starts the last week of the regular season!

Today marks the start of the last week of the regular season in the Alps Hockey League with two games. Champion EK Die Zeller Eisbären visits Jesenice, while HC Migross Asiago welcomes Rittner Buam SkyAlps. Asiago, which recently celebrated nine league wins in a row, only needs one point to secure playoff qualification.

HDD Jesenice – EK The Zell Polar Bears

Despite leading several times, Jesenice had to admit defeat against Asiago in the shootout on Saturday. It was the fourth defeat from the last five games for the second-to-last team in the table – three times the decision was made by a difference of just one goal. The reigning champions from Zell am See kept their chance at first place in the table with a convincing 3-0 home win over the Juniors. However, the Eisbären, who are currently three points behind the Red Bulls, need help. Both duels of the season so far went narrowly to the EKZ – 4:3 at home and 3:2 away.

Fourth-placed Asiago celebrated its ninth league win in a row in Jesenice. In the home game against Ritten, one point is enough for head coach John Parco’s team to finally secure their place in the playoffs. The seventh-placed guests from Klobenstein are under considerable pressure in the last week of the regular round: three games decide whether they can move into the Master Round. In the last six games, Ritten has regularly alternated between victory and defeat – most recently there was a home defeat against Bregenzerwald. In a direct season comparison the score is 1:1, both teams won their home games.
