Austria also loses the second test against the Czech Republic within 24 hours. In Jihlava, the ÖEHV selection remained without a goal and was defeated 4-0. Next week there will be two tests against Germany.
Benjamin Nissner, Dominic Hackl and Ramon Schnetzer were given a break for the second leg, but all three will rejoin the national team next week.
They fought doggedly against the Czech Republic, but were hardly given any space or time from their opponents to move forward in an orderly manner. Our neighbors were sometimes really stuck in the attacking third. Austria defended well and could rely on David Kickert in goal. But in the 18th minute the red-white goalkeeper had no chance. The Czech Republic played the defense, David Tomasek had enough time to prepare the puck and sink it precisely.
At the beginning of the second third they created some offensive actions, Ian Scherzer appeared dangerously in front of the Czech goal, seconds later Leon Wallner had a great chance to equalize. Shortly afterwards, the Czech Republic took control again and were lucky when they poked in front of the Austrian goal. Michael Spacek was just able to push the disc over the line and make it 2-0 – 28th minute.
The biggest chance of the game for Austria came in the 30th minute from Mario Huber, whose powerful shot towards Kreuzeck was only prevented by the metal.
In the 43rd minute, the Czech Republic once again kept things running smoothly and outplayed all the Austrians. Only Kickert didn’t allow himself to be taken away and made another big save to ensure that his team stayed in the game. After the penalty against Thimo Nickl in the 46th minute, the clock only ran down three seconds before it was 0:3. The Czech Republic won the face-off in the attacking third, the target went straight to Michael Spacek, who had a clear field of fire and shot unstoppable. Marcel Marcel scored the final point in the 57th minute, Austria lost 4-0 to the Czech Republic.
