The calendar year 2025 had to offer pretty much everything that defines the sport of ice hockey in the win2day ICE Hockey League: goals in a row, historic brands, big titles and a new generation of young players who attracted lasting attention. A look back at an intense year full of emotions.
Goals, goals, goals
The first goal of the 2025 calendar year didn’t take long to arrive: Nick Petersen scored the first goal of the new year after just 90 seconds in the EC-KAC’s 7-4 away win in Vienna on January 1st – the starting signal for a high-scoring ice hockey year. A total of 2,077 goals were scored in 354 games in 2025. The 2,000 goal mark was once again clearly exceeded, with the teams scoring an average of 5.87 goals per game.
The highest-scoring matchday of the year was November 26, 2025, when 53 goals were celebrated across the league. That evening was also the highest-scoring game of the year – and at the same time one of the biggest surprises: HC TIWAG Innsbruck defeated EC-KAC 9:6. (Note: There were also a total of 15 goals in the quarter-final opener between Linz and Graz – 6:9).
In general, the duel between Innsbruck and Klagenfurt in 2025 developed into a real goal guarantee. An average of 9.5 goals per game were scored in this encounter – more than in any other duel.
Strongest offensive teams and consistent winners
The EC-KAC scored the most goals in the 2025 calendar year with 228 goals. In addition to Klagenfurt, only two other teams cracked the 200-goal mark: EC Red Bull Salzburg with 207 goals and the Steinbach Black Wings Linz with 203 goals.
However, EC Red Bull Salzburg recorded the most wins in 2025. The Mozartstadt team won more than 70 percent of their games. A large number of these successes came in the previous season, at the end of which Salzburg celebrated its fourth championship title in a row – its tenth title in total – a record since the league was founded.
The young whiz kids of the year
In addition to numbers and results, 2025 was also, above all, the year of young starters – especially from the start of the season in September.
Paul Sintschnig from EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV started things off. The only 16-year-old from Carinthia scored a brace on September 26, 2025 – his first two professional goals. Two more goals followed, as was his call-up to the national team. However, in preparation for his first mission, Sintschnig suffered an injury and was out for several weeks.
The EC-KAC also sent a strong signal in terms of youth work in 2025. David Waschnig (18) and Johannes Dobrovolny (17) scored their first professional goals and made it clear that they would not be their last.
At the end of the year, another youngster finally came into the spotlight: Jonathan Oschgan from the Steinbach Black Wings Linz scored a brace on the last match day before the turn of the year and was named win2day Game Day Hero.
