The national team break is over – the win2day ICE Hockey League starts the second third of the regular season with concentrated action. ORF Sport+ will broadcast the West derby between HC TIWAG Innsbruck and Pioneers Vorarlberg live on Wednesday. There will also be a summit meeting between HC Falkensteiner Pustertal and Olimpija Ljubljana. The Steinbach Black Wings Linz also want to continue their successful run and are playing at the EC-KAC. There are home games on the program for the two Hungarian teams.

The Vienna Capitals are returning from the national team break with a fresh start: Kevin Constantine has taken over as head coach. The American is no stranger to the league – in the 2021/22 season he led Hydro Fehérvár AV19 to the final. He is now making his comeback behind the gang in Budapest, this time as head coach of the Caps. The first game after the restart is a groundbreaking one: FTC-Telekom and the Vienna Capitals are tied on points in tenth and eleventh place. The loser of this match will initially appear outside the pre-playoff ranks. The Hungarians suffered a negative series before the break and lost their last six games.

In the duel between the EC-KAC and the Steinbach Black Wings Linz, two teams in top form meet. The Upper Austrians won their last five games before the break, making them the hottest team in the league. Klagenfurt, on the other hand, leads the league if you look at the last ten games in isolation. On Wednesday we will see which team survived the national team break better. The Klagenfurt team narrowly won the first duel of the season in October – Jan Muršak scored a brace – including the winning goal around two minutes before the end. The Linzers have since worked their way up to eighth place in the table, but the top seven are still some way away.

There is also a new face behind the gang at Hydro Fehérvár AV19: Canadian Ted Dent took over command during the national team break. However, his debut will be a challenge because HCB Südtirol Alperia, the current third-place team, is visiting Székesfehérvár. The South Tyroleans clearly won the first duel of the season thanks to a strong final third. Fehérvár only won one of the last six games before the break and slipped to ninth place – just one point ahead of the eleventh-placed Viennese. The people of Bolzano, on the other hand, are in a comfortable starting position as the leading duo’s closest pursuers and have also played one game less.

HC TIWAG Innsbruck welcomes Pioneers Vorarlberg to the second West derby of the current season – LIVE on ORF Sport+. After the exciting first meeting in Feldkirch, which the Haie narrowly won 3-2, the second leg in Innsbruck also promises to be an intense duel. Both teams are currently in the bottom of the table and are fighting to keep up with the top 10 – the importance of the points is correspondingly high. For the Tyroleans, ex-Pioneers striker Steven Owre leads the team’s internal scoring with 16 scorer points (8 goals, 8 assists). On the Pioneers’ side, Collin Adams has established himself as a reliable point provider with five goals and five assists.

While the Dragons from Ljubljana shine with their offensive power (80 goals in 16 games) and an outstanding power play (31.9%), Pustertal impresses with its top line around Cole Bardreau, Henry Bowlby and Nick Saracino.
