ICEHL: Indoor ban? Confusion about the Villach fan scene!

There will be support from the fans at EC VSV’s home game against Black Wings Linz on Friday, but not from the “Absolut Villach” group. Contrary to circulating rumors, however, there is no general ban on fan groups in the hall, as VSV managing director Martin Winkler made clear to the “Kleine Zeitung”.

The background goes back to the 2023/24 season. During the first away game of the quarter-final series in Bolzano, there was an incident in which VSV coach Marcel Rodman was said to have had beer thrown at him and racist insults thrown at him by his own fans. The incident was captured on video. As a result, the club banned five identified people from the hall – but not the entire “Absolut Villach” fan group.

“Everyone who knows how to behave is welcome in our hall,” emphasizes Winkler. Only recently there was a clarifying conversation with representatives of “Absolut Villach” at the away game in Innsbruck. The exchange was perceived as positive and it was once again emphasized that fans of the group are still welcome in the Villach hall.
