The intermediate round of the Alps Hockey League continues with five games on Saturday. In the top game of the Master Round, HC Migross Asiago meets league leaders EK Die Zeller Eisbären.
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors will also face the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. In the Qualification Round A, the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers meet Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, while HC Meran/o Pircher competes against SG Cortina Hafro. There will also be a derby in the Qualification Round B between the Rittner Buam SkyAlps and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it.
The EK Die Zeller Eisbären moved to the top of the Master Round on Thursday with a clear 7-2 home win over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. Now, however, a particularly difficult task awaits away against the strongest team in the league, HC Migross Asiago. The Italians have now been unbeaten in 13 games across all competitions. On Thursday, the current fourth place in the Master Round, which comes with a bonus point, was free of play. Zell am See is also in good form and has celebrated seven wins from the last ten games. However, Salzburg suffered three defeats in their last five away games. In Asiago they were able to win one of two guest appearances and were also successful in front of their home crowd. In all three previous meetings, only one goal decided the game.
Juniors and Vipiteno want to celebrate their first victory in the Master Round
Both the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan were unsuccessful at the start of the Master Round. The Juniors lost 0:4 in Sisak, the Broncos lost 2:7 in Zell am See. The team from Salzburg slipped from first to third place in the table, while Vipiteno is in fifth place with no points. In a direct comparison, the Juniors have so far won two of the three duels of the season, but the South Tyroleans narrowly won the last meeting 4-3 in front of their home crowd.
Cortina wants to maintain its top position in Qualification Round A
In the Qualification Round A, HC Meran/o Pircher will face SG Cortina Hafro. The guests are currently at the top of the table with five points, level on points with second-placed Kitzbühel. Merano follows in third place with two points. On Thursday, the Adler lost 2:3 after a shootout in Kitzbühel despite temporarily leading 2-0. It was their first defeat after two wins in a row. Cortina, on the other hand, has won all of the last four games, most recently with a 7-2 win against Unterland. They were successful against Meran in two of the three previous duels.
Unterland calls for Kitzbühel
In the second game of Qualification Round A, the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers meet Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. The bottom team from Unterland urgently needs points to keep their chances of reaching the top 3 and thus the pre-playoffs alive. However, the South Tyroleans were only able to win three of the last ten games. Kitzbühel is tied for second place with leader Cortina. On Thursday, the Tyroleans celebrated a 3-2 shootout home win against Meran, ending a series of three defeats in a row. So far they have won all three matches of the season against Unterland.
Derby between Ritten and Val Gardena in Qualification Round B
The Qualification Round B will also be played. The Rittner Buam SkyAlps will meet HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. For the guests from Val Gardena it is the first game of the intermediate round, while Ritten started the qualifying round with a 3-2 away win at Bregenzerwald on Wednesday and thus took the lead in the table. Val Gardena is in third place with one bonus point. For Ritten, the success in Bregenzerwald was the first victory after five defeats in a row. Val Gardena has won two of the last five matches. However, they haven’t had a chance in the derby against Ritten so far this season and suffered three significant defeats (1:4, 2:5, 1:5).
