ICEHL: Despite the contract, Canadian Defender surprisingly ends his career!

The contract extension of defender Shawn Lalonde at Olimpija Ljubljana has apparently been done: According to a report by Laola expert Bernd Freimüller, the Canadian ends his career.

Lalonde only moved to Laibach towards the end of last season after he had previously been active in the top league in Europe for many years. Stations of the now 35-year-old were the German ice hockey league, the Finnish Liiga and the Russian KHL. In Austria he is still known from his time at the Vienna Capitals.

There, the defender made headlines in the summer of 2021: Although the number 1 defender obliged, he refused to sign the “Covid declaration of reference” required by the ICE Hockey League. This declaration should exclude claims for damages by players in the event of a corona infection. Since Lalonde refused to sign, his contract was terminated without notice by the Capitals.
