Homegrown player David Maier and the EC-KAC will end their collaboration in the summer of 2026; after six years with his parent club, the defender is moving on.

The EC-KAC and David Maier will go their separate ways from the end of the current contractual agreement at the end of May. After an initial assessment, the club made financial demands to the defender in the middle of the season no new offerso David Maier decided for a change of scenery in the summer.

After he was primarily used in the Future Team in the Alps Hockey League in his debut season with the Red Jackets, he was promoted to the Black Wings Linz after a six-week loan became a regular player in November 2021 at EC-KAC. At home, the right-wing shooter also developed into a an integral part of the Austrian national teamwhich he has since represented at each of the four A World Championships. “It was a great honor for me to play for the EC-KAC, my hometown club. It was always special to play game after game in front of family and friends, in a mostly full Heidi Horten Arena in front of the great KAC fans. After I didn’t receive a new contract offer in the middle of the season, I didn’t want to wait any longer and decided on a different path. But that’s business, we part on absolutely good terms. I would like to thank you for the support over all these years, especially from the doctors and Physiotherapists who got me fit again after injuries,” sums up David Maier his time in Klagenfurt and the reasons for his departure.

The EC-KAC would like to thank David Maier for his performances in 270 ICE and CHL games and for his efforts in the Red Jackets jersey. The club wishes him much success for his future career and would be happy if his paths crossed with David Maier again in the future.
