The Austrian national ice hockey team has to do without an important defensive force in today’s opening game of the Germany Cup in Landshut against Slovakia. KAC defender Clemens Unterweger is out due to injury.
Unterweger was unable to complete the final training session on Wednesday due to thigh problems. Team boss Roger Bader confirmed the failure to LAOLA1: “He has a pinch in his thigh.”
Particularly bitter: Unterweger’s use in the remaining games of the tournament is questionable. “Whether we can get him through to Saturday is very questionable given the type of injury,” said Bader. ““He’s already missing,” Bader openly admits the importance of the veteran for the team.
Despite the cancellation, no additional nominations will be made. Unterweger will remain with the team to receive treatment on site as the team faces hosts Germany on Saturday evening and Latvia on Sunday morning.
