ICEHL: Innsbruck Haie are desperate for revenge for their season-opening defeat

The HCI meets the Pustertal Wölfe this evening. The Haie want to take revenge for the home defeat at the start of the season.

With 1:8, HC Falkensteiner Pustertal swept the Sharks off the ice at the season opener in September in the TIWAG Arena. Now, two and a half months later, the Wolves are in second place and the Sharks are in 12th place in the table. Due Pusterer are the clear favorites again.

Nevertheless, there is an air of optimism in the HC TIWAG Innsbruck camp, said Troy Lajeunesse, who was recently ill: “Of course they are a strong team, with individual class. But we have grown together as a team since the start of the season and have shown that we can beat top teams. We have to believe in ourselves and stick to our plan for 60 minutes.”

Captain Jan Lattner sees it similarly: “In this league it’s the same game after game. You have to consistently put your performance on the ice the entire game, then you have a chance of taking points. Anyone can beat anyone.”

HC Pustertal has presented itself as an absolute top team this season, but recently suffered two defeats (Linz, Ferencváros). This means that the South Tyroleans also lost the lead in the table to Ljubljana, who, however, played one more game. Nevertheless, the Wolves will want to get back to winning ways today in front of their own crowd. The Sharks need to pay particular attention to the HCP’s top scorer, Cole Bardreau. The striker scored five points in the away win in Innsbruck (3G/2A). Recently he had a jam and has been waiting for a scorer point for five games.

The Haie have been without a win against the HCP for six games, their last success was celebrated in December 2023 in Bruneck (6:4).

A real hit awaits the fans next week. The record champions come to Innsbruck. The Haie host the EC-KAC on Wednesday:
