Two weeks ago, EC Red Bull Salzburg lost 3:4 after overtime at Olimpija Ljubljana, today the Bulls lost 1:2 in the city of Mozart. The reigning champions have been without success for three games, and Laibach has taken over the top of the table thanks to their success.
For the first time in over three and a half years, Olimpija Ljubljana celebrated an away win in Salzburg. With their sixth success in a row, head coach Ben Cooper’s team once again took the lead in the win2day ICE Hockey League. Captain Gregorc gave the guests the lead in the tenth minute before Salzburg set the tone for long stretches, but were repeatedly thwarted by the outstanding guest goalkeeper Horak. The Red Bulls also pressed in the middle third, but only hit the crossbar. In the final period, Thomas Raffl equalized when he was shorthanded (51′), but just three minutes later Zach Boychuk scored with a precise shot into the far corner to make it 2-1 for Ljubljana. Salzburg’s late attack was unsuccessful – it was the third defeat in a row for the reigning champions.
