After stations at the Pittsburgh Penguins, in the Russian KHL and at the Cologne Haien, striker Josh Currie switched to the Mur in summer. The Canadian newcomer now wants to play out his experience with the Graz99ers.
Motivation and expectations
Already in the first training sessions, Currie was impressed by his new home. The 99ers are “perfectly organized” and have “fantastic management”. For Currie it was clear: “I wanted to go to a winning team – and Graz has the potential to be one.”
Despite two defeats in the first test games against Mannheim, the veteran sees his team well positioned in conversation with the “Kleine Zeitung”: “We are fast, we have four strong lines, eight good defenders and a reliable goalie. Our squad is very balanced.”
He takes the increasing expectations under the sporting leadership in Graz as an incentive. “Pressure is important, this is the only way to get the best out of yourself. We want to win and have the highest expectations of ourselves.”
Hard preparation before the start of the season
Before the season starts against Puster Valley on September 14th, there are still intensive training days and the Energy Styria Trophy on the program next weekend. At the start, the 99ers will meet Slovan Bratislava on Friday (7.30 p.m.) before the final games follow on Saturday. Also present: Curries ex-club Cologne Haie and the Malmö Redhawks.
