In the Alps Hockey League, the EK Die Zeller Eisbären celebrated a clear 7-2 home win against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan at the start of the Master Round and thus moved to the top of the table. In addition, KHL Sisak clearly defeated the regular season winners Red Bull Hockey Juniors 4-0. Furthermore, in the Qualification Round A, Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel turned a 0-2 defeat against HC Meran/o Pircher into a 3-2 shootout home win and SG Cortina Hafro gave the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers no chance at 7-2.
The EK Die Zeller Eisbären defeated the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 7:2 and thus moved to the top of the Master Round. With six points, the Pinzgauers are now one point ahead of Sisak. At the shooting festival against Vipiteno in front of 1,800 fans, Philip Putnik gave the home team the lead in the seventh minute, but 28 seconds before the end of the period the Broncos managed to equalize through Connor Sanvido. In the second third, Zell am See clearly set the pace and pulled ahead to 5-1 by the 37th minute. In the 47th minute, Ethan Szypula made it 6-1, completing his hat trick. For last season’s MVP, it was the first hat-trick of the current season in just his eleventh game of the season. The 29-year-old Canadian was absent between October 17th and January 17th due to injury. In the fourth duel of the season it was the third victory for Zell am See.
Sisak handles juniors
In the fourth duel of the season with the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, KHL Sisak celebrated its third victory. In the 4-0 home win at the start of the Master Round, the Croatians gave the regular season winners from Salzburg no chance. Sisak is now second in the table behind Zell am See, while the juniors slipped to third place. In the 14th minute, Danila Larionovs gave the home team the lead, followed by three goals in the middle third. There were no more goals in the final period, meaning SIS goalie Vilim Rosandic celebrated his third shutout of the season.
Kitzbühel turns game against Meran
In the Qualification Round A, Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel started with a 3-2 win after a shootout against HC Meran/o Pircher. After nine minutes, the Tyroleans were already 2-0 behind after goals from Reid Stefanson (1st) and Patrick Tomasini (9th) and were in danger of suffering their fourth defeat in a row. However, the home team showed improvement afterwards and shortened the score in the 17th minute through Matthias Mader. In the 42nd minute, Kirill Maksimov equalized. It was the 26-year-old striker’s first goal in the sixth game. No further goals were scored in regular time or overtime, so the decision had to be made in a shootout. Mai Crnkic scored the decisive penalty there. In the table, Kitzbühel is level on points with Cortina in second place, Meran follows in third place, three points behind. For the South Tyroleans it was the first defeat after two wins in a row and the fourth defeat of the season against Kitzbühel.
Cortina gives Unterland no chance
In the second game of Qualification Round A, SG Cortina celebrated a clear 7-1 win against the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers and thus moved to the top of the table. Unterland remains at the bottom of the table without a point. The bottom team of the regular season initially took the lead in the seventh minute. From the away team’s point of view, it remained narrowly 1-0 until the 23rd minute before Cortina really turned up the heat and pulled ahead to 4-1 by the 33rd minute. In the final third, Cortina continued to set the tone and pulled ahead to 7-1. With Oskari Kalajanniska, Chad Pietroniro and Massimo Pietroniro, three players scored twice. The final point was Erik Potsinok from Unterland, who had already opened the evening with a 0-1 score.
