The sixth and final matchday of the league phase in the Champions Hockey League will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. All three teams in the win2day ICE Hockey League – EC Red Bull Salzburg, EC-KAC, HCB Südtirol Alperia – currently have the chance to move into the round of 16. But it can also happen that in the end no ICE team makes it to the knockout phase.
Bolzano demanded on Tuesday
The HCB Südtirol Alperia is in action on Tuesday. The table 20th. has to play away at Luleå Hockey and has the worst starting position of the three ICE representatives. Bolzano is currently one point away from the top 16. In eleventh place, the Swedes are three points ahead of the South Tyroleans, but their place in the round of 16 is also not yet certain. Last week the Füchse narrowly lost 2:3 at home to ERC Ingolstadt. After the first third the HCB still led 2-0. Luleå lost 0-2 in Bremerhaven. In the domestic SHL, the Swedes celebrated two wins last weekend and are now in ninth place, while Bozen lost both in the derby against Pustertal (3:5) and at home against Villach (3:6) and thus slipped to third place in the table.
KAC is fighting for the round of 16 in Kuopio
As table 16th. The EC-KAC currently holds the last place in the round of 16. On the final matchday of the league phase they will face second-placed KalPa Kuopio away. The Finns are only one point behind leaders Ilves and have already qualified for the round of 16. Last week, the Red Jackets lost 4-1 at home to Tychy, although they were still leading 1-0 until eleven minutes before the end of the game. Kuopio clearly won 5-1 at Mountfield. They won one of the two games in the Finnish league last weekend. The KAC was only in league action on Sunday and won 3:2/OT against Pustertal.
Salzburg has to get their ticket to the round of 16 against Berlin
EC Red Bull Salzburg is currently in 15th place with six points, directly ahead of Klagenfurt. At the end of the league phase, the Red Bulls will face the Eisbären Berlin in front of their home crowd, who are currently in 21st place with four points. In the current league phase, the reigning German champions were already defeated 2-3 in Klagenfurt. Last week the Eisbären suffered a 4-1 home defeat against Frölunda, while Salzburg lost 2-1 in Odense. In the ICE, too, the Mozartstadt team recently had to narrowly admit defeat 2:3 in Székesfehérvár, with the decisive goal only coming three seconds before the end. Previously, they narrowly had the upper hand at home against Vienna with 4:3/OT. Berlin celebrated two narrow victories in the DEL last weekend.
