At the destination of dreams: Graz99ers are crowned ICEHL champions!

The Moser Medical Graz99ers also won the fourth final game against HC Falkensteiner Pustertal and remained undefeated in the entire playoffs. For the first time in the club’s history, the Styrians are crowned champions.

The fourth final game started like the previous final games. In a fairly even opening phase, the Moser Medical Graz99ers were the first to take the lead. The Graz team successfully disrupted Pustertal’s build-up of play in the eighth minute, and Kevin Roy acted alone in front of goalie Eddie Pasquale with a lot of patience and skill and made it 1-0. For HC Falkensteiner Pustertal, who were playing against the end of the season, this was something of a “wake up call”. The Wolves acted even more decisively and Rok Ticar equalized from half left in the eleventh minute. The momentum then shifted to the hosts from Bruneck, who subsequently created numerous chances. In the 15th minute the time had come: Pustertal took the lead for the first time in this final series through Mikael Frycklund in the power play.

The second third started with chances on both sides. In the 15th minute, Anders Koch worked the disc over the line with a “lucky bounce” to equalize. Pustertal then pushed for a renewed lead, but repeatedly failed due to Nicolas Wieser or the aluminum. However, the hosts remained the dominant team for long stretches in this section.

Graz had the better start to the final third. In the 42nd minute, Michael Schiechl brought the puck dangerously in front of the goal, and Kevin Conley gave the Styrians the lead again. From this point on, the 99ers took full control: As in the entire playoffs, the Styrians remained incredibly strong and confident. Josh Currie made the preliminary decision in the 49th minute, making it 4-2 after a remarkable pass from Kevin Roy and his own rebound. Pustertal opened up to come back. The Graz99ers once again proved their “coolness” – in the 54th minute Lenz Moosbrugger made it 5-2. For Moosbrugger, this was the debut goal in the win2day ICE Hockey League – and in the championship-winning game. The Graz veteran himself set the final point: Michael Schiechl – long-time captain – made the final score 6:2 and made the numerous Graz fans who had traveled along cheer.

With a 6-2 win in the fourth final game against HC Falkensteiner Pustertal, the Styrians completed their playoff sweep and remained unbeaten with 12 wins and not a single defeat in the entire postseason. After the Vienna Capitals (2017) and EC Red Bull Salzburg (2022), the Graz99ers are only the third team to achieve this feat. Since the league was founded in 2000, the Styrians are also the seventh different champion of the win2day ICE Hockey League.

Final score in the “best of seven” series: 4:0 Graz99ers
