EC Red Bull Salzburg continues the basic round of the win2day ICE Hockey League tomorrow, Sunday, with the home game against HC Falkensteiner Pustertal (4:30 p.m., Sporteurope.tv). Just yesterday, the South Tyroleans celebrated a home win against Villach and thus took over the top of the table. The Red Bulls also had a sense of success yesterday and want to take revenge for their first defeat of the season in Bruneck.
Initial situation
Fourth against first – the Sunday game between the Red Bulls and Pustertal is the next top game in the league. While the South Tyroleans want to defend their No. 1 position in the table, the Salzburgers want to get there. With a win in regular time, i.e. three points, and some help from Budapest in the home game against Bolzano, the Red Bulls could actually take over the top of the table on Sunday, because the gap to the Pustertal team (with a different number of games) is only two points.
The Red Bulls gained new self-confidence yesterday with their 7-2 home win against Budapest and also enjoyed good conversion of chances, which cost them a number of points in the last few rounds. Apart from that, the team’s performance in the last few games has already been trend-setting and now, after the successes against Innsbruck (last Sunday) and Budapest, the Red Bulls also want to win against the league leaders, who won the first comparison with Salzburg 2-1 in Bruneck a month ago. In addition to the four convalescents Peter Hochkofler, Philipp Wimmer, Ali Wukovits and Devante Stephens, the Red Bulls will also have to do without Lukas Schreier, who suffered a lower body injury yesterday.
HC Pustertal on fire
HC Pustertal, on the other hand, is currently experiencing a real high, having not only climbed to the top of the table yesterday with a 4-3 overtime win against Villach, but has also won six times in the last seven games. Mainly responsible for this are their top scorers Cole Bardreau (8 T, 11 A), Henry Bowlby (10, 5) and the former Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy striker Tommy Purdeller (5, 2), who together scored more than half of all 42 Pustertal goals.
Manny Viveiro’s statement
“Pustertal has a fast, strong skating team with a good offense. We want to stick to our concept with a compact defense and have to be ready to skate. We expect a game at a high level and are ready for Pustertal.”
