Post game commentary from Assistant Coach David Fischer:
“The opening phase was tight, both teams were well in their positions and didn’t give their opponents many opportunities. Even before that, it was emotional at the Starting Six presentation, Nick Petersen and Sebastian Dahm, who have already done so much for this club, received a deserved and great appreciation from the audience after their milestones in the last game. It was also nice to have Jan Muršak back on the scoreboard, with a brace in the first third.
The start to the second period was okay, but our power play wasn’t, so Villach got the momentum with his shorthander. But I liked our patience, with which we stayed within our good structure, that was tactically disciplined. The back checks were spot on, as was the spacing. It was important that we kept pushing and didn’t resort to managing the lead, because that’s not our team’s style. We have to keep pushing through, that’s what we did, with an overall good performance in front of great fans. But now it’s time to immediately set a new focus and be ready for tomorrow’s game in Vienna.”
