The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan actually made it and qualified as the fifth team for the Master Round and thus also early for the playoffs. In the very last game of the regular season, the South Tyroleans celebrated a clear 4-0 win at KHL Sisak and pushed Kitzbühel into sixth place by one point. Sisak, on the other hand, missed the jump to second place and remains third behind Zell am See.
The Alps Hockey League now continues with the Master Round and the Qualification Round. The first matchday of the intermediate round will take place on Thursday, February 5th. The game plan will be communicated on Monday.
The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan needed two points to jump to fifth place – in the end they even got all three. For KHL Sisak, however, one point would have been enough to reach second place and start the Master Round with three bonus points. But the eagerly awaited game turned into a rather one-sided affair, at least in terms of the result, in favor of the guests from Vipiteno, who were narrowly defeated 1-2 after overtime in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday.
Connor Sanvido gave the guests the lead in the third minute, and James Livingston increased the lead to 2-0 in the 14th minute. The Broncos were also successful twice in the second third and thus secured the preliminary decision. First, Paul Eisendle scored with the advantage to make it 3-0 (22nd), before Jerkko Rämö made it 4-0 with a double advantage in the 34th minute. In the final period, Vipiteno defended skillfully and Dominik Groh celebrated his second shutout of the season with 34 saves.
