Canadian Jacob Smith spent a total of five seasons in the EBEL/ICEHL and is now returning to North America.
Smith moved to Europe immediately after his junior career ended and played for HCB Südtirol Alperia in 2016. He celebrated his professional ice hockey debut in the Foxes’ uniform. He stood in goal for the South Tyroleans for three years before moving to the Alps Hockey League for three seasons.
In 2022 he made a comeback in the win2day ICE Hockey League when he joined HC Pustertal. He stood between the posts for Bruneck in two seasons and won twelve victories in the “Puschtra” dress. The Italian national goalkeeper spent the past season with the Danish club Esbjerg Energy.
After a total of nine seasons in Europe, the now 30-year-old is returning to North America. Smith appears on the East Coast Hockey League club Wheeling Nailers’ training camp roster.
