While the season for the Pioneers Vorarlberg is coming to an end, the look behind the scenes is already turning to the coming season. A central question: Will head coach Johannes Nygård stay in Feldkirch in the future?
The 31-year-old Finn left little doubt about this recently. When asked whether he would like to continue his work with the Pioneers, the coach answered clearly to the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten”: “Yes, 100 percent. I would like to continue.”
In fact, according to “Vorarlberger Nachrichten”, discussions about his future have already begun. Despite a disappointing place in the league table, Nygård sees his team on the right track. As evidence, he primarily cites the individual development of several players. Young players like Oskar Maier, who is taking on a key top-six role for the first time, or Marlon Tschofen, who has developed into a reliable two-way center, are just as much in focus as experienced players.
It is precisely this development that is crucial for Nygård. Especially given the Pioneers’ comparatively modest budget. “For a team with our financial capabilities, this is the key,” emphasizes the coach. Even if the chances of making it into the top ten are minimal, he continues to demand full professionalism after the Olympic break. In the remaining six games, four of them in front of the home crowd, Nygård doesn’t want to make any compromises: “We go into every game to win. That’s our duty.”
