AlpsHL preview: Bregenzerwald, Kitzbühel & Zell am See with home games!

As usual, there is no Christmas break in the Alps Hockey League. Five games will continue on December 26th. Among other things, defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären will meet the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, while second-placed KHL Sisak can take the lead in the table with a complete win against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, as leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors are out of action. There will also be a direct duel for fifth place between EC Bregenzerwald and Rittner Buam SkyAlps.

The EK The Zeller Eisbären challenges the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan on Friday. The third-place team from Pinzgau won both duels of the season so far (4:2, 3:2). On Monday, however, Salzburg lost 4-0 in the top game in Sisak. It was the first defeat for Zell am See after three wins in a row. Ninth-placed Sterzing, which is seven points behind fifth place, recently lost 3-6 in Val Gardena. It was one of three defeats from the last five games.

Sisak can take the lead in the table
KHL Sisak got back on the road to success on Monday with a 4-0 home win over Zell am See after suffering two defeats in a row. In the table, the second place is now only two points behind the leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors, who have no games on Friday. With a win after regular time against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, Sisak can take the lead in the table. The Croatians beat Val Gardena 6-3 in front of their home crowd at the end of November, but lost 2-1 away. The South Tyroleans, currently eleventh in the table, have recently been in better form and celebrated two wins in a row after previously suffering three defeats in a row.

Duel for fifth place between Ritten and Bregenzerwald
Fifth-placed Rittner Buam SkyAlps will be visiting sixth-placed EC Bregenzerwald. Both teams have 39 points. Bregenzerwald celebrated a brilliant 8-3 home win against Asiago in its last appearance. It was one of two successes from the last five games for Vorarlberg. Ritten, on the other hand, recently suffered a 2-4 home defeat against Jesenice, which brought an impressive five-game winning streak to an end. In the only duel of the season so far, Bregenzerwald retained the upper hand in Ritten with 5:3.

Asiago wants to end the losing streak in Kitzbühel
HC Migross Asiago lost all of their last three games and slipped to seventh place in the table, but is only one point behind fifth-placed Ritten. Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel is six points ahead of them in fourth place. The Tyroleans were able to win both duels of the season against Asiago so far (4:3/SO, 6:3). Most recently they celebrated a narrow 4:3/OT away win at Unterland, while Asiago lost 2:5 against Cortina. In each of their most recent three defeats, the Italians conceded at least five goals. With a total of 94 goals conceded, Asiago has the third weakest defense in the league. For comparison: Kitzbühel only had to accept 70 goals (fourth place in the league).

Cortina and Meran conclude Christmas match day
In the fifth and final Friday game, SG Cortina Hafro and HC Meran/o Pircher face each other. With five wins in a row, Cortina is currently the hottest team in the league. The Italians are in eighth place in the table and are only three points behind fifth place. On Monday they celebrated a 5-2 win over Asiago. Meran, on the other hand, surprisingly won 3:2/SO against leaders Salzburg. For the in-form South Tyroleans it was one of three wins from the last five games. However, they are still only in twelfth place in the table, already twelve points behind the important fifth place. Meran won the most recent duel against Cortina 3-2, but Cortina won the first meeting of the season 3-0.
