Great rumor: Top player Jason Akeson is about to return to the ICEHL!

The search for a replacement for the long-term injured KAC captain Thomas Hundertpfund could soon come to an end. As the “Kleine Zeitung” reports, the Red Jackets are working intensively on signing Jason Akeson.

The 35-year-old Canadian stormed for HC Pustertal from 2023 to 2025 and left a lasting impression there. In 112 games, Akeson scored 119 points, was the Wolves’ top scorer in both seasons and, especially last season, delivered consistently as the internal top scorer with 55 points in 51 games. His performances earned him a contract with Servette Geneva in January of the previous year.

However, the 22-time NHL player’s time in Switzerland was unfortunate. A lower body injury in the quarterfinals against KAC set Akeson back, and the issuance of his Swiss passport was delayed for months. It wasn’t until the Spengler Cup – as a loan player for IFK Helsinki – that he celebrated his comeback after a long break. Akeson now has a Swiss passport, but there is still a lack of match practice.

This is exactly where the KAC could come into play: a loan deal until the end of the season is certainly conceivable. In Klagenfurt, Akeson would have the chance to quickly find his rhythm again and the KAC would get an offensively strong replacement for Hundredp Pfund in a personnel-tense phase.
