U18 World Cup: Austria returns to winning ways with goal festival!

Almost everything that could go wrong went wrong for the ÖEHV selection in the first third. After less than two minutes they conceded the 0-1, but quickly came back through Emil Wagner (5th). A minute later they found themselves behind again after a converted penalty against Austria. In the power play, the World Cup hosts even increased their lead to 3-1, but no one in the red-white-red camp let their heads down.

On the contrary. They picked themselves up, motivated each other and equalized before the break with a double strike from Paul Sintschnig. In the middle third they were initially unlucky with a shot against the bar and a crossbar. In the 34th minute, Johannes Dobrovolny gave his team the deserved lead for the first time. Estonia managed to equalize again, with Felix Baumann making it 5:4 just before the break.

Thanks to Niclas Micelli, they increased the lead to 6:4 shortly after the start of the final third and from then on they finally controlled the action. The highlight was a shorthander by Vitus Plank to make the final score 7:4.

Head coach Peter Schweda: “We played well in the five-on-five game and also dominated. But due to broken plays, the penalty against us and various penalties, it was a crazy first third. Thanks to the cohesion of the leadership group, no one on the bench became negative. They pulled together and got the game over the stage.”
