Shock for the Lendhafen Sea Lions from Carinthia: Alex Cijan is seriously injured before the final of the Division II Mitte against Feld am See/Ledenitzen. The 31-year-old striker tore a cruciate ligament while skiing and will be out of the team for six to seven months – the “Kronen Zeitung” reports.
Cijan is no stranger to domestic ice hockey. The veteran played 370 games in the ICE Hockey League and played for Red Bull Salzburg, the Black Wings Linz and the Vienna Capitals, among others. He celebrated the championship title twice with Salzburg and won the title once with the KAC.
“Of course it’s bitter – especially now,” Cijan told the “Kronen Zeitung”. “But I’m looking forward positively. I’ve already been through a few injuries and I won’t let them get me down.”
In terms of sport, his loss is a hard blow for the Sea Lions: On Friday he will be behind the board in the second final duel in Ferlach (7.15 p.m.) as sporting director together with coach Peter Kasper.
