The EC Red Bull Salzburg continues the basic round of Win2day Ice Hockey League tomorrow, Sunday, with the away game against the Steinbach Black Wings Linz (5:30 p.m., ORF Sport+). After yesterday’s home defeat against HCB South Tyrol Alperia, the Salzburgers want to catch themselves quickly and act more compact again as a team, but again prepare for a hard and intensive duel at the Black Wings in Linz.
Starting position
After yesterday’s Bundesliga round, the six-man field above the line, which marks the fixed playoff participation, has become narrower. From the first – Ljubljana – to sixth place – Vienna – the teams are only separated by five points. The Red Bulls keep in third place with two points behind the top of the table.
The Black Wings Linz have nothing to do with the upper half of the table after a moderate start of the season and are 11th after six games with three points. After the victory against Feldkirch, five defeats followed in a row. Yesterday the Upper Austrians had to give up 2: 3 at home against the KAC. Before that in Bolzano, it also set a almost 2: 3 – but that should be reason enough to counter the Linzers with 100% willingness to perform, because these games could have ended differently. For the Red Bulls anyway, a learned must, as you have learned from countless hard derbies in the past.
Hardly personnel surprises
In Linz, the protagonists of recent years are still on the train. Brian Lebler (5 goals), Graham Knott (3) and Shawn St-Amant (3) convince with their goal quota. Newcomer Travis Barron (3) also knows where the gate is and Emil Romig, who had to miss the entire last season due to injury, has reported back strongly with 2 goals.
The Red Bulls compete against Bolzano with the same lineup as yesterday (i.e. without seven injured players and without newcomer Brandon Coe), want to act more powerfully in the offensive zone and have to be more cold in the chances, which is all the more important in the often heated atmosphere in Linz AG Eisarena.
Statement Lucas Thaler
“It was not a bad game from us yesterday, after all it went against Bolzano. But we still have to play better as a team. The mistakes on the defensive were set, that was punished yesterday. Now it goes to Linz, the next difficult game is waiting there. But we are looking forward to a full house and a great game.”
