There are two games in the Alps Hockey League on Tuesday. League leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors meet the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan at home. HC Gherdeina also plays host to Hafro Cortina Hockey. The only Wednesday game will be played by the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers and HC Migross Asiago.
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors recently celebrated five wins in a row and lead the Alps Hockey League table by one point over Sisak. On Tuesday, Salzburg will host the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. The team from Vipiteno suffered a narrow defeat in Cortina on Saturday and is currently in eighth place. Salzburg are the best home team in the league. They scored points in all seven home games, winning five of them. The Broncos have celebrated two wins in four away games so far. The Juniors won the first duel of the season in Vipiteno 4-1 – Maxim Eliseev scored a hat trick. The 19-year-old leads the AHL’s goalscoring list with twelve goals and is in second place in the scoring rankings with 23 points, just behind teammate Jesse Juhola (24 points).
In the second Tuesday game, Cortina welcomes HC Gherdeina. Both teams were able to end their losing streak on Saturday. Head coach Gaber Glavič’s team is in eleventh place, five points behind the top 5, while the South Tyroleans are in sixth place. Cortina won three of its four home games so far, while the “Furie” was only able to win one of five away games. Val Gardena clearly won the first duel of the season at home 6-1.
On Wednesday there will finally be a duel between Unterland and Asiago. The Cavaliers are still at the bottom of the table with seven points from eleven games. Most recently, they put up a courageous fight against champions Zell am See, but in the end they had to admit defeat 4:5. At Asiago, victory and defeat have always alternated in the last six encounters. On Saturday there was a 5:7 defeat in Salzburg. Asiago, currently in ninth place, won the first duel of the season 4-1.
