Due to the penalty imposed today against Tyler Lewington as well as the penalties previously imposed on Moser Medical Graz99ers players after the win2day ICE Hockey League game in Graz (January 23rd), EC Red Bull Salzburg feels compelled to make a statement:
After the emotionally charged game on January 23rd in Graz against the Moser Medical Graz99ers, as a result of which Salzburg players Dennis Robertson and Florian Baltram were eliminated from the game with concussion, the ICE Hockey League subsequently imposed the following penalties on Graz players:
“Josh Currie of the Moser Medical Graz99ers was suspended for three games and fined 750 euros for an illegal check on the head or neck (IIHF Rule 48). His teammate Marcus Vela received a two-game ban and a fine of 400 euros for the same offense.”
Today, on January 27th, the ICE Disciplinary Senate finally announced the sentence against Salzburg’s defender Tyler Lewington:
“The EC Red Bull Salzburg player, Tyler Lewington, will be fined EUR 2,400.00 for damaging sporting integrity during game no. 249 of the win2day ICE Hockey League on January 23, 2026 in accordance with the ICE Hockey League Game Book… In addition, an unconditional ban of five competitive games will be imposed on Tyler Lewington due to insulting or threatening opposing players or the audience….”
EC Red Bull Salzburg reacts to the league’s penalty against Tyler Lewington today with the following statement:
“Tyler Lewington’s reaction towards the Graz audience should in no way be trivialized or sanctioned. The Red Bulls stand for a tough, fair and technically adept ice hockey sport. The attacks cited by the Graz players against the head and neck area were also punished accordingly by the referee team. However, the high level of punishment for Tyler Lewington compared to the two offenses that resulted in serious injuries is a great disappointment. The league must be aware of them “We need to become even more aware of our responsibility and the protection of players must be our top priority at all times.”
