ICEHL preview: Next Hungary derby and top duel between Laibach & Graz!

The 24th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League continues on Friday. In the top game, league leaders Olimpija Ljubljana welcome the third team, the Moser Medical Graz99ers. There will also be the second Hungarian derby between FTC-Telekom and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and the EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV will compete against the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. As usual, all six games can be seen on Sporteurope.tv.

Olimpija Ljubljana is back at the top of the table with a 6-3 win against Pustertal. The Slovenians have already scored 100 goals, making them the strongest offensive team in Europe and the first team since the league’s premiere season in 2000/01 to reach the 100-goal mark after 22 games. More about that here. The Slovenians’ lead over third place, the Moser Medical Graz99ers, is only two points. This means that the guests from Styria have the chance to take the lead in the table on Friday with a win after regular playing time – and at the same time a Pustertal defeat against Vienna. The Styrians retained the upper hand 5-2 in Salzburg on Wednesday. It was one of seven wins from the last ten games. In the first duel of the season with Olimpija, Graz suffered a 3:4 defeat after overtime.

Second Hungarian derby
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 retained the upper hand 5-1 in the first Hungarian derby with league newcomer FTC-Telekom. Now both teams are facing each other for the first time in Budapest. The host goes into the duel as a slight favorite: eighth-placed FTC has won the last three matches, while tenth-placed Fehérvár – three points behind FTC – has lost the last two games, most recently on Wednesday in Vienna with 1:3.

Villach welcomes Linz
For the second time this season, the EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV will face the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. In the first meeting on September 26th in Linz, Villach celebrated a clear 8-3 away win. Since then, however, the Upper Austrians have stabilized significantly – with seven wins from the last ten games. The Black Wings are in ninth place in the table, seven points behind sixth-place Villach. Both teams suffered defeats on Wednesday: VSV lost 4:5 at the Pioneers, Linz had to admit defeat at home against Bozen 3:6.

KAC wants to get back to winning ways against Pioneers
The fourth-placed EC-KAC was unable to win any of the last two games; Most recently, the Red Jackets lost 6:9 in Innsbruck. Bottom of the table Pioneers Vorarlberg, on the other hand, ended their four-game losing streak with a 5-4 home win against Villach. In the first duel of the season with the KAC, the Pioneers celebrated a surprising 2-1 home win after a shootout – their first success over the Carinthians after five defeats in a row. However, a win in Klagenfurt would be a surprise, as the weakest away team of the season has only won one of its ten away games.

Vienna wants to overcome weakness away from second place in the table Pustertal
No win in the last three away games and only two away wins in total – that is the Vienna Capitals’ meager interim balance. On Friday, the eleventh in the table will be visiting second, HC Falkensteiner Pustertal. In the first duel of the season, the Viennese were narrowly defeated at home by 4:5 after overtime. On Wednesday, the capital city team beat Fehérvár 3-1 at home, while Pustertal lost 3-6 in Ljubljana and had to hand over the lead of the table to the Slovenians. For the South Tyroleans it was one of three defeats from the last five games, while Vienna won two of the last five games – both in front of their home crowd.

Bolzano welcomes Innsbruck in the Tyrol derby
In the sixth game of the 24th round there will be a Tyrol derby between HCB Südtirol Alperia and HC TIWAG Innsbruck. In the first duel of the season, Bolzano celebrated a 4-1 away win – the sixth derby win in a row. In the table, the South Tyroleans are in fifth place, while Innsbruck is in twelfth place. However, the Tyroleans are traveling to Bolzano with self-confidence: On Wednesday they brought the EC-KAC to its knees 9:6 in a goal spectacle – their first win after four defeats in a row. Bolzano is also not in top form, with two wins from the last five games. However, on Wednesday they had the upper hand in Linz with 6:3.
