EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a 4-1 home win against Eisbären Berlin in the Champions Hockey League on Wednesday. With three goals in the middle period, the reigning champions of the win2day ICE Hockey League laid the foundation for success. The Red Bulls moved into the CHL round of 16, where they will face the DEL team from Ingolstadt.
EC Red Bull Salzburg got off to a perfect start in the home game against Berlin: Connor Corcoran gave the home team the lead in the fourth minute on a power play. Salzburg stayed on the trigger, but were unable to convert their superiority into goals until the first break – the score remained 1-0. After the restart, it only took 82 seconds before the Red Bulls were able to celebrate again: After ideal preparatory work from Coe, Nash Nienhuis scored to make it 2-0.
Berlin reduced the deficit shortly afterwards, but in the 31st minute Mario Huber restored the two-goal lead after a perfect pass from Baltram. Peter Schneider finally increased the score to 4:1. Salzburg then defended their lead cleverly and was able to rely on goalie Atte Tolvanen in crucial situations. With this success, head coach Manny Viveiros’ team finished the CHL regular season in eleventh place – Ingolstadt now awaits in the round of 16.
