After a total of seven years with the club, Luka Gomboc will be taking off the red and white jersey in the summer; the Slovenian striker did not receive a new contract offer from the EC-KAC.
The EC-KAC and Luka Gomboc are now going their separate ways; the club has not offered the attacker an extension of his contract, which expires at the end of the season. This marks the end of the Slovenian’s two-stage commitment to the Carinthian state capital, which lasted a total of seven years.
Luka Gomboc once moved to the EC-KAC at the age of 14, and through the U18 team and the Future Team in the Alps Hockey League, he was recommended for the import draft in Canada’s highest youth league. He subsequently spent the 2021/22 season (like Thimo Nickl and Fabian Hochegger before) with the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the QMJHL. After his return to the Red Jackets in 2022, he worked in parallel in the future team and in the combat team for two years. With his good performances, he was recommended not only for his first appearances in the Slovenian senior national team in the summer of 2023, but also for a long-term contract with the Austrian record champions. However, the three seasons since then have been marked by several, mostly serious injuries for Luka Gomboc, so that he was actually in the lineup in only 42 of Klagenfurt’s 184 league games during this period. In total, the now 22-year-old played 98 competitive games in the win2day ICE Hockey League and the Champions Hockey League for the EC-KAC, scoring ten goals and preparing eight more goals.
The Slovenian striker is accompanied by the best wishes for his future career, as is Marcel Witting. The long-time red jacket striker moved to Klagenfurt as a playoff addition on the last day of the transfer deadline in March, after the season had already ended for his employer HC Innsbruck. The 30-year-old was on the ice for an average of 11:21 minutes in each of the six quarterfinal games, recording one goal and a +2 rating. Marcel Witting is now returning to his current contractual relationship with the Tyroleans, as agreed before the KAC commitment.
