The Moser Medical Graz99ers are hitting the transfer market again and signing American striker Kevin Conley.
Graz99ers sports director Philipp Pinter found what he was looking for during his scouting trip through North America. At the age of 28, attacker Kevin Conley ventured to Europe for the first time.
In 2021/22 he made his professional ice hockey debut for the Reading Royals in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). He spent the last few years in both the ECHL and the AHL (American Hockey League) and played for the Iowa Wild and the Manitoba Moose, among others.
Five years in the NCAA
With a height of 185cm and a weight of 93 kilograms, Conley has a lot of physique. The crack from the US state of Wisconsin studied at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he also played as captain for two years. He spent a total of five years in the NCAA, one at the University of Denver, and scored 87 points in 161 games.
The Graz99ers will play their next game next Sunday. Then the Styrians will play at Ferencvaros Budapest. In the table, head coach Dan Lacroix’s team is in second place with 87 points. Only four points are missing from the leader from Klagenfurt, but the Murstadt team have played one game less.
Voices
Kevin Conley: “At a certain point in my career, I really wanted to play in Europe. I know a lot about the league from friends who have already played here. I also immediately spoke to Nick Swaney (teammate at Iowa Wild from 2022 to 2024, ed.) on the phone. And I’ve only heard good things from everyone, about the team, about the club and the city. Now I can hardly wait and of course I hope that we can win as much as possible together.”
Philipp Pinter, sports director: “With Kevin, we were able to strengthen ourselves once again. With his speed, running skills and strength in tackling, he will be an ideal fit for our team and will give us the necessary depth for the playoffs. His games in Manitoba in particular have shown how dangerous he can be in rush situations and how toxic he can be in forechecking. He is hungry, has a great character and wants one thing above all – to win. So he is an ideal fit for Graz.”
