AlpsHL: Kitzbühel celebrates a landslide victory – Zell beats the league leaders!

The EK Zeller Eisbären inflicted their first home defeat of the season on Thursday at league leaders KHL Sisak. The Pinzgauer team scored 0-3 and prevailed in extra time. HC Migross Asiago also celebrated a comeback success, while Rittner Buam SkyAlps climbed to second place. However, there were clear home wins for Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and HDD Jesenice.

KHL Sisak and EK Zeller Eisbären had a thrilling exchange of blows in the top game. The league leaders made it 1-0 after just 59 seconds through Karlo Marinkovic in front of almost 1,000 spectators. In the middle period, the Croatians made it 3-0 with a double strike. But the reigning champions’ comeback began in the 40th minute of the game: Tim Coffman and Tyler Cuma scored within 51 seconds. In the third period, EKZ captain Max Wilfan forced extra time, in which Coffman struck again and made the away win perfect. Despite the defeat, Sisak remains leader of the table, Zell am See is still in sixth place.

HC Gherdeina suffered a bitter home defeat. The team from Wolkenstein lost to HC Migross Asiago 2:3 after a shootout. Simon Pitschieler gave the home team the lead after just 24 seconds, and Hannes Kasslatter increased the score in the 13th minute. The hosts dominated the game for long periods, but gave the game away in the final phase. Lucas Chiodo reduced the deficit with a penalty in the 54th minute, and Robert Calisti made it 2-2 with one minute left. In the shootout, Nicholas Porco finally brought about the final turnaround and the away win. Asiago improved to eighth place, Val Gardena fell back to third place.

Bottom team Unterland suffered their fifth defeat in a row, but got at least one point against Rittner Buam SkyAlps. After a goalless first third, the guests, who had more of the game overall, took the lead through Kevin Fink. The home team managed to equalize in the final period and Gabriel Zerbetto sent the game into extra time. There, Simon Kostner secured the away win with a precise finish and the Rittner Buam jumped to second place.

The fans saw eleven goals in the Sportpark Kitzbühel, where the home team clearly defeated HC Meran 8:3. The Tyroleans laid the foundation for success in the first third, which they won 5-0. Alexander Maxa and Niklas Ketonen each scored a brace. After two defeats, the fourth-placed Tyroleans got back on the road to success.

HDD Jesenice celebrated its second win in a row. The Slovenians won their home game against Hafro Cortina Hockey 3-0. After a goalless start, Tjas Lesnicar scored the opening goal in the 33rd minute. Although Cortina recorded more shots, Jesenice goalie Zan Us kept his goal clean with 30 saves. In the final third, Tom Sojer increased the lead to 2-0 before Jasa Jenko fixed the final score with an empty net goal. Jesenice improved to tenth place and is directly ahead of Cortina.
