Transfermarkt: Ex-Graz99ers flop has to go!

Former Graz99ers striker Daniel Viksten is looking for a club again. The contract in France was not extended with the Swedish veteran.

Career with strong numbers – a look back

Daniel Viksten was considered a reliable offensive player at a high level for many years. The winger was particularly impressive in Sweden: In the SHL, one of the strongest leagues in Europe, he consistently delivered solid scoring values. He completed his best season in 2020/21, when he was one of the league’s most dangerous goalscorers with 25 goals. Overall, over 250 points in more than 400 SHL games speak for themselves.

Disappointment in Graz – expectations clearly missed

With high hopes, Viksten was signed to the Graz99ers in the ICEHL in 2023. He should invigorate the offense and take on a leadership role as an experienced scorer. But nothing came of it. In 27 games, the Swede only managed 14 points – not enough for a player with his profile. His weak plus/minus balance of -17 was even more serious, which also underlines his problems in defensive play.

Viksten often seemed like a foreign body in the system, never really connected and was hardly able to use his qualities. For an import player with his CV, that was simply not enough – expectations were clearly missed.

Short hope, but no lasting recovery

After leaving Graz, he moved back to Sweden to IF Björklöven. There he showed, at least at times, that he hasn’t forgotten how to score: 21 points in 29 games are decent, but not outstanding. Even in the playoffs he remained productive as an assist provider, but was unable to dominate.

The next step took him to Angers in France. The trend continued in Ligue Magnus: solid but unspectacular performances. 15 points in 30 games is pretty average for a former SHL top scorer.

Now it’s over – another upheaval

Now it’s clear: Viksten has to go again. His time in Angers is over, the future is uncertain.
