The Austrian defender David Reinbacher may be facing his NHL debut in the coming season. The 2023 was selected in fifth place by the Montreal Canadiens in 2023 and has since been considered one of the greatest defense talents of his years.
After a serious knee injury that had long put him out of action last year, Reinbacher is now in the Canadiens training camp. After his recovery, he collected the first game practice at the farm team Laval Rocket and convinced with five points in ten games (two goals, three assists).
“I’m doing very well and I enjoy being on the ice again,” emphasized Reinbacher in an interview with NHL.com/de. “I’m finally fully recovered again. Of course that feels good.”
He is particularly motivated by the prospect of being the third current Austrian in the NHL next to Marco Rossi and Marco Kasper. “Yes, hopefully,” said Reinbacher with a smile during the question of whether this step could soon be successful. “We talked a lot with Marco Rossi in summer because we trained together. It would be awesome to take the next step and soon play NHL.”
The chances are good that Reinbacher is already running for Montreal this season and could thus write another chapter of Austrian ice hockey history.
