Vienna Capitals coach Scholz: “We will have to address a few things again!”

The Vienna Capitals had to admit defeat for the first time under interim head coach Fabian Scholz on Friday evening. The Viennese lose 1:4 against the Steinbach Black Wings Linz.

The Donaustadt team took the lead in the 10th minute through Jérémy Grégoire, who also scored in his third league game. Graham Knott was able to equalize in the first half of the game. In the middle third the Viennese lose the thread. Linz pulled away within four minutes after goals from Knott (32′), Julian Pusnik (34′) and Logan Roe (35′). In a final third marked by penalties, no more goals are scored.

Interim head coach Fabian Scholz, who had to do without the long-term injured Senna Peeters, was disappointed afterwards: “We showed in the first third that we were actually well prepared for the game. We came out of the locker room strong and quickly scored the opening goal. Even though Knott broke through once, structurally we were in good shape overall in the first third. In the second half of the game we completely left the game plan. Linz really took our edge. We tried to do everything we could in the third period, but we let one or two decisions take us out of the game. But that’s no excuse. We’ll have to address a few things that happened in the second third today that didn’t help us win a game.”

On Sunday the Viennese will play their last game before the international break against EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV (5.30 p.m.).
