The fans of the Alps Hockey League experienced an exciting 25th round on Thursday. With Tim Coffman (EKZ), Reid Stefanson (HCM) and Marek Potsinok (HCU), three players shone with a hat trick.
In the end, EK Die Zeller Eisbären clearly won against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it 7:1, HC Meran/o Pircher surprised HC Migross Asiago with a 5:2 win and the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers also won 5:2 against HDD Jesenice. Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel also celebrated a confident 7:3 home win against EC Bregenzerwald. The Rittner Buam SkyAlps won the derby against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 4:3 after overtime, while second-placed KHL Sisak narrowly lost to SG Cortina Hafro at home 2:3 after a shootout.
Third-placed EK Die Zeller Eisbären celebrated an easy 7-1 home win against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it in front of almost 2,000 fans. Tim Coffman was the outstanding player with a hat trick and two assists. Max Wilfan also scored a brace, while Nick Huard shone with a goal and five assists. It was the third defeat in a row for the tenth-place team from Val Gardena.
Kitzbühel handles Bregenzerwald
Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel also scored seven goals in a 7-3 home win against EC Bregenzerwald. The fourth-placed team scored three extremely important points in the battle for the top 5 against the seventh-placed team from Vorarlberg and is now seven points ahead of the ECB. Klemens Krainz was the only Adler player to score twice, while Philipp Pöschmann scored two goals for the guests. After the first third it was still 1:1, in the second period Kitzbühel pulled away to 4:2. Right at the beginning of the final third, the 5:2 made the preliminary decision. For Kitzbühel it was the first win after two defeats in a row, while Bregenzerwald suffered their fourth defeat from the last five games.
Overtime victory for Ritten in the derby against Vipiteno
The Ritten Buam SkyAlps and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan had a thrilling exchange of blows in the derby, which Ritten ultimately won 4-3 after overtime. It was the Buam’s fourth win in a row, moving them up to sixth place and only one point behind fifth-placed Asiago. Vipiteno remains ninth. After 25 minutes the home team led 2-0 before the Broncos were able to equalize in the 40th minute. The guests even took the lead in the final third, but this time Ritten struck back: Tobias Graf equalized three minutes before the end of regular time. In overtime, Patrick Madsen made the decision after 76 seconds.
Cortina turns game in Sisak
1,800 fans initially saw a strong performance from their team in Sisak. Despite a temporary 2-0 lead, KHL Sisak ultimately lost to SG Cortina Hafro 2-3 after a shootout. After just 16 minutes, the second-placed team was in the lead with two goals, Cortina got on the scoreboard in the 39th and 58th minutes. Oskari Kalajanniska scored the important equalizer for the eighth-placed team, who ultimately prevailed in the shootout thanks to Kris Pietroniro’s decisive goal and celebrated their fourth win in a row.
Merano surprises Asiago – Reid Stefanson scores three times
Twelfth-placed HC Meran/o Pircher celebrated a surprising 5-2 away win against fifth-placed HC Migross Asiago. For the Eagles it was only their eighth win of the season in their 23rd game. In front of almost 1,000 fans, Reid Stefanson gave Meran the lead in the eleventh minute. The Canadian ended up scoring three of the guests’ five goals. In the 33rd minute, Asiago managed to equalize, but Meran pulled ahead to 4-1 by the 50th minute and ultimately inflicted the home team’s third home defeat in a row.
Marek Potsinok shines in Unterland’s home win
Bottom of the table Hockey Unterland Cavaliers gave defending champions HDD Jesenice no chance and celebrated a 5-2 home win. It was only the fifth success in the 22nd game of the season for the Cavaliers, while Jesenice already suffered its 15th defeat. For the South Tyroleans it was their first victory in a direct duel after five defeats in a row. The outstanding man of the evening was Marek Potsinok with a hat trick. Among other things, he scored the game-winning goals to make it 3-1 and 4-1 in the middle of the second third.
