ÖEHV team boss Bader before the test tournament: “We have zero expectations in terms of results!”

Under difficult conditions, Austria’s national ice hockey team contests the three-nation tournament in Oslo against Hungary (Friday) and hosts Norway (Saturday). Team boss Roger Bader has to do without a total of eleven injured players, and the use of defender Bernd Wolf is also questionable.

The numerous cancellations give five young players the chance to make their senior national team debut, including U20 captain Johannes Neumann, David Waschnig and Lenz Moosbrugger, whose short-term re-nomination Bader describes as a “beautiful story”. Overall, Austria has the youngest and most inexperienced team in the tournament with an average age of 24.8 years.

“Zero expectations in terms of results”

In terms of results, Bader therefore has “zero expectations”, as stated to “Laola1.at”. The focus is on looking at new players with a view to the World Cup preparations starting in April. All players should be given plenty of ice time to present themselves. Bader is hoping for one thing above all before the tournament starts: no further cancellations.
