ICEHL: Vienna Capitals with an intensive test game weekend!

After the successful start against Hydro Fehérvár AV19, the Vienna Capitals continue their pre-season program presented by Steffl Sports in Klagenfurt. In the Heidi Horten-Arena, the Donaustädter will meet the host EC-KAC tomorrow from 8:00 p.m. as part of the Klagenfurt test game week. On Sunday from 2:00 p.m., the two-time Austrian champion will be dealing with DEL club Grizzlys Wolfsburg at the end of the test game week. Both games of the Viennese are transferred from the analysis tool Spiideo by means of automatically generated video streams (link to the video stream KAC vs. Vic).

The 4: 3 victory after Shootout via Hydro Fehérvár AV19 is a rare event for the Vienna Capitals. The Viennese recently won their pre-season start in 2019. In between, it set five defeats at the start of preparation. Against Fehérvár, the newcomers Linden Vey and Mitch Hults contributed two scorer points each. The duo prepared both power play goals of the other new commitments Randy Gazzola and Senna Peeters. The pre-season start was also successful for Leon Wallner. The 23-year-old Viennese scored in the regular season and sank the decisive penalty in the shootout. Armin Preiser and Jérémy Grégoire, on the other hand, missed the first test game. It is possible to use Grégoire as part of the Klagenfurt test week, and the two games come too early for the convalescent Preiser. Caps newcomer Peeter, who moved from Klagenfurt to Vienna in summer, will meet his old employer for the first time since his red-jacket intermezzo.

Long Durtstarten in Klagenfurt

As early as 2023, when the Vienna Capitals took part in the first edition of the Klagenfurt test game week, the Viennese met on the host EC-KAC. The caps defeated the red jackets 5-2 at the time. Only five players of the team at the time are still in the service of the Viennese. Otherwise, the Donaustärter record against the team from Lake Wörtherson looks dark. The last victory of the Viennese against the KAC in a competitive game achieved on January 6, 2023. In Klagenfurt, the caps have been waiting for a success in a competition game since March 15, 2022. The red jackets won the last nine mandatory game duels across the season.

Compared to the pre -season, the squad of the Klagenfurt team only changed slightly. Six exits face two new additions. Kirk Furey’s team has played two test games with opposing results so far. Last Friday, the red jackets won 3-0 against league competitor Olimpija Ljubljana. Yesterday it started a 0: 4 defeat against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, which the caps will meet on Sunday.

Statement Gerry Fleming, Head coach of the Vienna Capitals

“I like that we can test against successful teams from our own league. That was already the case against Fehérvár, who were temporarily leaders in the pre -season. Now we will meet the runner -up for the past two seasons with the KAC. So that will be a good test for us again last Saturday against Fehérvár, especially that it was our first test. Building elements, but also worked on things that we can make even better in the two games in Klagenfurt. ”
