Hayden Ostir (195 GP, 29 G, 41 A with the Spokane Chiefs and Medicine Hat Tigers) has decided to retire from the WHL to focus on his education. He had not suited up for the Tigers in the regular season but did play in two pre-season games, going pointless with two penalty minutes. Ostir’s decision now leaves the Tigers with their three overage players for the season: James Hamblin, Tyler Preziuso and Parker Gavlas.
Brook off to Laval

Defenseman Josh Brook has been assigned to the Laval Rocket of the AHL by the Montreal Canadiens. The 1999-born defenseman could return to the Moose Jaw Warriors this season but it seems likely he will stick in the pro game after recording one assist in seven games with the Rocket last season.

With three goals and three assists in just two games, Everett Silvertips captain Bryce Kindopp has been named the first WHL Player of the Week for the 2019-20 season. Kindopp and the Silvertips return to the ice in Kelowna on September 28th.

In a week that included a 50-save performance and an early candidate for “Save of the Year”, it seems only fitting that Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Roddy Ross has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week. Ross and the Thunderbirds will be back on home ice when they take on the Tri-City Americans on September 27th.

This won’t be news to Saskatoon Blades fans, as he’s already suited up for two regular-season games, but we’ll note it here as the Anaheim Ducks officially announced they have returned Chase Wouters back to the Saskatoon Blades. The Blades captain has no points and six shots on goal since coming back from the Ducks.
Suspension updates
Both Ridly Greig and Ben McCartney will be out of the Brandon lineup on Friday when Moose Jaw visits. Greig received a three-game ban, and has served the first one, while McCartney earned a single game. Both were assessed majors on the weekend. #BWK #BDNMB #WHL

According to the WHL’s Discipline Page, Brandon Wheat Kings forward Ben McCartney has received a one-game suspension for a charging major on September 21st while Wheat Kings forward Ridly Greig has been suspended three games for his hit on Ice defenseman Chase Hartje. He has already served one game of that suspension, as it was originally an indefinite suspension.

The Winnipeg ICE have assigned 2019 second overall pick Conor Geekie to the Yellowhead Chiefs of the MMHL. Geekie suited up for one of the ICE’s two regular-season games this season and was held pointless.

Brayden Point (252 GP, 134 G, 190 A with the Moose Jaw Warriors) has signed a three-year contract extension with the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning. In 229 games, all with Tampa Bay, he’s notched 91 goals and 107 assists.

The AHL’s Manitoba Moose have inked Griffen Outhouse to an AHL contract after he had attended camps with the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets. In 196 WHL games with the Victoria Royals, he recorded a 114-60-15 record with a 2.77 GAA and .917 save percentage.

Boston Leier (259 GP, 68 G, 99 A with the Medicine Hat Tigers and Regina Pats) has received a professional try-out with the Utica Comets of the AHL. Last season he split time with the AHL’s Belleville Senators and ECHL’s Brampton Beast notching six goals and six assists in 44 games.
