The Red Deer Rebels have acquired forward Ben King from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for forwards Jordan Borysiuk and Cohner Saleski, prospect Parker Lalonde and Lethbridge’s third-round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
In 16 games this season, King has scored four goals and added four assists with 18 penalty minutes. Last season he notched five goals and 21 assists in 48 games. Borysiuk and Saleski each have two points in their WHL career in nine and 10 games respectively. Lalonde was a sixth-round pick of the Rebels in last May’s WHL Bantam Draft. He’s currently playing for the Saskatoon Blazers of the SMHL where he’s tallied two goals and three assists in 10 games. For more on the trade, you can go here.

Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Oliver Okuliar and defenseman Alex Cotton, as well as Portland Winterhawks goaltender Joel Hofer, were named to the CHL Team of the Week. Okuliar was the star of the week with seven goals and one assist in three games, including back-to-back hat-trick games. On the blueline, Cotton registered one goal and four assists in three appearances. In net, Hofer posted a 0.90 GAA and .969 Save Percentage in two games.

The ShoWare Centre in Kent, Washington, home to the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds has lost over $850K through the first three quarters of 2019. The arena recorded its worst first quarter this year due to decreased attendance at Thunderbirds games as well as concert cancellations due to inclement weather. The Thunderbirds are on pace to match their attendance numbers of previous seasons in 2019-20.

Canada White has sent home Canada Red with a 3-2 win on Thursday at the World U-17 Challenge. Kyle Masters (Red Deer Rebels) was the lone WHL representative to record a multiple-point game with two assists. Dylan Guenther (Edmonton Oil Kings) and Matthew Savoie (Winnipeg ICE) each registered a point with a goal and an assist respectively.

Canada White will be the lone Canadian delegation in the semifinal as Canada Black was doubled up by Russia in Thursday’s quarterfinal game. Jayden Grubbe (Red Deer Rebels) was the star for Canada Black in this affair with two goals while Sean Tschigerl (Calgary Hitmen) also had a goal.

Czech Republic knocked out Sweden with a 5-1 win thanks to a pair of goals from Ivo Sedlacek. They’re now set for a semi-final matchup with the Russians.

Chaz Lucius (Portland Winterhawks prospect) had a hat-trick for the Americans in an 8-4 win over Finland. The Americans will now play Canada White in the semis.
Dubnyk plays in 500th NHL game

Devan Dubnyk (192 GP with the Kamloops Blazers from 2001-2006) played in his 500th NHL Game on Thursday night with the Minnesota Wild. Originally drafted in the first round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Dubnyk has also suited up for the Nashville Predators and Arizona Coyotes.
Nagel to join Cougars
Also hearing from out west that former Swift Current Broncos captain Tanner Nagel will be joining the Regina Cougars for 2nd semester. That's a really solid addition for Regina.

According to a report from reliable USports reporter Victor Findlay, Tanner Nagel (232 GP, 29 G, 22 A with the Portland Winterhawks, Lethbridge Hurricanes and Swift Current Broncos from 2015-2019) will be joining the University of Regina Cougars for the second semester of this school year. After the Broncos season concluded last season, Nagel joined the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies for nine games in which he had one point.
