Brennan, Cougars shut out Americans

Tyler Brennan made 24 saves as the Prince George Cougars traveled to Kennewick and beat the Tri-City Americans 2-0 before 2,002 fans at the Toyota Center.

Connor Bowie‘s ninth goal of the season at 19:43 of the first period stood up as the game-winner. Caden Brown (fourth) notched an insurance goal in the latter stages of the second frame to seal the game. The Cougars outshot the Americans 34-24 as both teams had eight powerplay opportunities with the Cougars scoring one of their two goals up a skater.

Brennan’s shutout was his third of the campaign and his record improves to 9-13-0-1. Tomas Suchanek stopped 32 Cougars shots as the Americans lost their fourth-straight contest, three of them being shutouts.

Stankoven named DUB Player of the Month

A day after being named Player of the Week, Kamloops Blazers captain Logan Stankoven was named DUB Player of the Month. The Dallas Stars draft pick had 24 points (10G-14A) in the month of January. The 18-year-old center has 56 points (23G-33A) in 31 games which is good for fourth overall in the DUB scoring race.

Gauthier named DUB Goalie of the Month

Fresh off of winning his second Goalie of the Week in January, Portland Winterhawks overage netminder Taylor Gauthier was named DUB Goalie of the Week. Since being acquired from the Prince George Cougars he is a perfect 7-0-0-0 with an amazing 1.70 goals against average and a .945 save percentage.

Broda joins Huskies

Joel Broda (Tri-City, Moose Jaw, Calgary 2004-10) who was released from VIllacher SV just a handful of days ago has signed with EC Kassel Huskies of the DEL2. The 32-year-old had 23 points (7G-16A) in 33 games for the ICEHL club prior to his release.

The Yorkton, SK product played 330 DUB games (with the Americans, Warriors, and Hitmen) scoring 141 goals and adding 121 assists for 262 points in his career.

Stefishen joins Ice Bears

Taylor Stefishen (Prince George 2010-11) has signed with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). The 31-year-old forward from North Vancouver has not played since 2018-19 when he played 47 games for UTE in the Erste Liga collecting 48 points (16G-32A).

Stefishen joined the Cougars as an overage after completing two seasons with Ohio State University. In 68 DUB games, he scored 24 goals and added 43 assists for 67 points.

Langan released from PTO

Just three days after Tristan Langan (Moose Jaw 2015-19) signed a professional tryout with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose, it came to an end with his release. He played a pair of games with the Moose collecting a minor penalty. The 23-year-old forward will return to the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL) where he has 25 points (8G-17A) in 20 games. He also had a stint with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL where he suited up in eight games collecting three points (1G-2A).

The four-year DUB veteran from Swan River, MB played his entire career with the Warriors where he picked up 184 points (78G-106A) in 241 games.

Khudobin recalled to Stars

Anton Khudobin (Saskatoon 2005-06) has been recalled by the Dallas Stars from the Baby Stars where he has been shuffled back and forth a few times this season. He has split his season between the NHL and AHL, with Dallas he has played nine games with a 3.63 goals against average and .879 save percentage, and 3-4-0 record. with Texas he has six appearances where he went 2-4-0 with a 2.55 GAA and .903 SV%.

Khudobin played one season in the DUB where he played 44 games with the Blades where he went 23-13-3 with a 2.89 GAA and .917 SV%.

Lind back with Kraken taxi squad

Kole Lind was recalled to the Seattle Kraken’s taxi squad. He has been up and down between the Kraken, the taxi squad, and Charlotte (AHL) where he has been since January 4th. In 34 games with the Checkers, he has 12 goals and 12 assists to go along with 68 penalty minutes.

The Shaunavon, SK product played his entire DUB career with the Rockets where he put up 224 points (83 goals, 141 assists) in 204 games.

Heatherington sent back to the Baby Sens

Dillon Heatherington (Swift Current 2010-15) was reassigned to the Belville Senators by the NHL’s Ottawa Senators. The defenseman has been up and down between the two clubs this season. In nine games with the Ottawa version of the Senators, he was held off the scoresheet but collected seven penalty minutes. In Belville, he has eight points (1G-7A) in 15 games.

The Calgary product played his DUB career with the Broncos where he was more known for his defense, he suited up for 247 games collecting 87 points (13G-74A).

Fleury brothers both suit up for Kraken

Cale Fleury (Kootenay, Regina 2014-18) got the call to play in his first game with the Seattle Kraken, joining his older brother Haydn (Red Deer 2011-16) on the blueline. They were both selected in the 2021 Expansion Draft. They will be the 13th set of brothers to suit up in the NHL this season and the second set on the same club. In 23 games with the Kraken, Hadyn has three points (2G-1A). Cale (two years younger) has 17 points (5G-12A) in 36 games for the Charlotte Checkers.

Hadyn played his entire DUB career with the Rebels where he suited up for 259 games picking up 134 points (30G-104A). Cale started his career with the Ice before being traded to the Pats as a reinforcement for the 100th Memorial Cup. In his 269 DUB games, he collected 127 points (32G-95A).
