Pats/Raiders postponed, Pats host Wheat Kings instead

The Regina Pats scheduled opponent Prince Albert Raiders were shelved on Friday due to injuries and five players bring placed on the COVID-19 List. The Pats will now play host to the Brandon Wheat Kings at 7 PM in a game that will be aired on TSN 4/5. This game is a make-up game for a game originally scheduled for January 21st.

Carter to step down as Chiefs GM at end of season

Spokane Chiefs general manager Scott Carter is stepping down at the end of the 2021-22 season due to health and family reasons. We wish Scott all the best in his future.

Kane joins the Oilers

Evander Kane (Vancouver 2006-09) has joined the Edmonton Oilers after penning a one-year deal with the NHL club. After being placed on unconditional waivers by the Sharks the forward joined the AHL’s Barracuda where he had eight points (2G-6A) in five games before being released outright. Kane was cleared he signed with the Oilers earlier today. The veteran forward has 264 goals and 242 assists in 769 NHL games over 13 seasons in the NHL (Atlanta/Winnipeg, Buffalo, San Jose).

In his short DUB tenure with his hometown Giants, the forward had 138 points (73G-65A) in 134 games on the west coast.

Harty joins the Mariners

Jonathan Harty (Everett 2004-08) was loaned to the Maine Mariners of the ECHL by the Rivière-du-Loup 3L of the LNAH. In 10 games with the LNAH club, he had a pair of points (1G-1A).

In his four-year WHL stint, the defenseman played his whole career with the Silvertips. He had 90 points (21G-69A) in 246 games.

Broda released from Villacher SV

Joel Broda (Tri-City, Moose Jaw, Calgary 2004-10) was released by the Villacher SV on Thursday after only half a season with the ICEHL club. The 32-year-old had 23 points (7G-16A) in 33 games for the club prior to his release.

The Yorkton, SK product played 330 DUB games starting with the Americans before moving on to the Warriors before ending his career with the Hitmen. The forward scored 141 goals and added 121 assists for 262 points in his career.

Smith joins EHC Olten

28-year-old Colin Smith (2008-13) has joined EHC Olten of the Swiss League after signing with the club for the rest of the season. He was released by mutual agreement from the Black Wings Linz (ICEHL) where he played 16 games notching 14 points (5G-9A). Smith started the season with Södertälje SK (HockeyAllsvenskan) where he suited up for 15 games picking up 10 points (5G-5A).

The Edmonton product played 272 games with the Blazers where he averaged just under a point-per-game with 271 points (102G-169A). Smith played in all 72 games in each of his final three seasons with the Blazers.

Pickard back with the Red Wings

Calvin Pickard (Seattle 2008-12) was recalled by the Detroit Red Wings from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. Pickard has been recalled and reassigned a few times this season already. So far this season, Pickard has played in one game with the Red Wings picking up a 4.74 goals against average and .857 save percentage. With the Griffins, he has played in 27 games going 13-8-6 with a 2.40 GAA and .927 SV%.

The four-year WHLer tended goal his entire 241 game career with the Thunderbirds. He had a career 91-120-27 record with 12 shutouts, a 3.29 GAA, and a .909 SV%.

Holden signs extension with the Senators

Nick Holden (Chilliwack 2006-08) signed a one-year extension with the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. Holden is in his first season with the Senators after spending the previous three with the Vegas Golden Knights. So far this season, the big defenseman has four points (1G-3A) in 30 games in Canada’s capital.

The St. Albert, AB product played two seasons in the DUB, both with the Bruins. In 137 games with the Bruins, he had 91 points (30G-61A).

Brook sent to the Rocket

Josh Brook (Moose Jaw 2014-19) was activated off of the injury reserve list and was assigned to the AHL’s Laval Rocket. He has yet to play this season. In 2020-21 the defenseman played 33 games for the Rocket picking up 15 points (2G-13A).

The Roblin, MB product played his entire DUB career with the Warriors where the offensive-minded defenseman had 157 points (31G-126A) in 204 games with 75 points in his final season in the Jaw.
