DUB Firsts

First DUB start and win

In his second appearance and first start, Cooper Michaluk stopped 36 of 38 shots as the Spokane Chiefs did the almost impossible and beat the Portland Winterhawks 3-2 ending Portland’s 11 game win streak (18-game unbeaten streak).

The 2005-born Sherwood Park, AB product has played 14 games with the OHA Edmonton U18 Prep team where he is 4-5-4 with a 3.57 GAA and .895 SV%.

DUB Alumni

Morrison recalled to Phantoms

Brad Morrison (Prince George, Vancouver, Lethbridge 2012-18) was recalled by the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL from the Reading Royals (ECHL). He has collected 29 points (8G-21A) in 28 games with the Royals. He had started the season with HC Pustertal (ICEHL, Austria) where he played seven games with no points.

The 25-year-old forward from Prince George, BC played in a whopping 334 DUB games where he picked up 262 points (112G-150A) most of which he played with his hometown Cougars.

Baddock dealt to the Wild

Brandon Baddock (Edmonton 2011-16) was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for goaltender Andrew Hammond. Baddock had played one game with the Canadiens where he was held off the scoresheet. In 33 games with the Laval Rocket, he had seven points (3G-4A).

The Vermillion, AB product played his entire 255 game career with the Oil Kings where he notched 54 goals and 49 assists for 103 points, where he was the team captain for his final season.

Kirsch extends with Heilbronner

Justin Kirsch (Calgary, Moose Jaw 2009-13) has signed a one-year extension with Heilbronner Falken of the DEL2. He is in his eighth DEL2 season, with five of the last six with Heilbronner. In 41 games this season, he has 40 points (19G-21A).

In 222 career DUB games split between the Hitmen and Warriors, he had 148 points (70G-78A),

Flodell reassigned to Stingrays

Logan Flodell (Seattle, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Lethbridge 2013-18) was released from his professional tryout with the Henderson Silver Knights (AHL) that he signed on January 17. He made no appearances with the Silver Knights.

The Regina, SK product played 161 games over his DUB career going 86-53-13 with a 2.92 GAA, .908 SV%, and nine shutouts.

Protas to Hershey

Alexei Protas (Prince Albert 2018-20) was reassigned to the Washington Capitals farm team in Hershey. The just-turned 21-year-old has played for both the Capitals where he has played 33 games collecting nine points (3G-6A). In 10 games with the Bears, he has seven points (2G-5A).

The two-year DUB forward played 119 games with the Raiders where he picked up 120 points (42G-78A).

Lewington to Providence

Tyler Lewington (Medicine Hat 2011-15) was sent back to Providence to play for the Bruins AHL affiliate. He has spent the majority of the 2021-22 season with the AHL’s Bruins where he has played 28 games collecting four points (1G-3A) and 31 PIM. In two games with the big club, he has no points and seven penalty minutes.

The 27-year-old Edmonton product played his entire DUB career with the Tigers where the defenseman was the captain in his final season. He had 122 points (18 goals, 94 assists) in 250 games.

Dowling and Sautner assigned to Abbotsford

Justin Dowling (Swift Current 2006-11) and Ashton Sautner (Edmonton 2011-15) were reassigned to the Abbotsford Canucks by their big club in Vancouver.

Dowling, who was waived a day earlier went unclaimed and was sent to Abbotsford. In 22 games with Vancouver, he had 4 points (2G-2A). In a pair of games with Abbotsford, he has three assists. In 280 games DUB games with the Broncos, the Cochrane, AB forward had 242 points (81G-161A).

Sautner was recently recalled by Vancouver only to be returned. The 27-year-old Sautner a 27-year-old defenseman has six points (1G-5A) in 25 games with Abbotsford. The Flin Flon, MB product played his entire four-year DUB career with the Oil Kings where he played 265 games picking up 117 points (24G-93A).

Kelly back to Baby Sens

Parker Kelly (Prince Albert 2015-19) has been reassigned to the Belleville Senators from their big club in Ottawa. Kelly has been up and down between the clubs a few times this season. With Ottawa, he has played 11 games where he has two assists (1G-1A) and with Belleville, he has 10 points (3G-7A) in 24 games.

The Camrose, AB product played his entire DUB career with the Raiders where he had 188 points (93G-95A) in 273 games while serving as an alternate captain his last two seasons.
