Oil Kings end Pats comeback bid with 6-3 win

Wheat Kings score three goals in the third in 3-1 win over Rebels

Playing in their first home game in over a month the Brandon Wheat Kings scored three goals in the third period to come back to beat the visiting Red Deer Rebels. With a maximum of 50% capacity at Westoba Place, 1,993 fans filled the place to watch their hometown heroes return to home ice and watch them win their fourth straight contest.

After a scoreless first period, the Rebels finally broke the ice when Jhett Larson scored his ninth goal of the season 15:57 into the second period giving the Rebels a 1-0 lead heading into the second intermission. Ridly Greig (20th) got the Wheat Kings on the board with just over nine minutes left in the game. Nate Danielson (12th) scored the eventual game-winner just over three-and-a-half minutes later. Greig (22nd) sealed the game with less than three minutes left in the game with his second of the contest. The three goals were scored in a span of 6:22.

Ethan Kruger made 27 saves as he picked up his 15th win of the season for the Wheat Kings. Chase Coward stopped 25 shots for the Rebels. Both teams went 0-for on the powerplay with the Rebels having four opportunities to the Wheat Kings six. The boxscore.

Raiders also score a trio of goals in the third to beat Hitmen 5-2

After being tied after the first and second periods, the Prince Albert Raiders erupted for three goals in the third period in a 5-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen. Cale Sanders led the hometown Raiders with a pair of goals in the win.

Brandon Whynott (fifth) opened the scoring for the Hitmen before Tayem Gislason (third) tied it up at 1-1 as they headed to the first intermission. Sanders scored (ninth) his first of the game to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead before Blake Stevenson (17th) knotted the game up at 2-2 before the second period expired. Keaton Sorenson (eighth) and Sanders with his second (10th of the season) scored before nine minutes of the third had passed. Landon Kosior (10th) scored into an empty net to seal the deal.

The Hitmen went 1-for-2 on the powerplay while the Raiders went 0-for-4.

Tikhon Chaika stopped 30 shots for the Raiders in picking up his 10th win of the season. Brayden Peters stopped 33 of 37 shots for the Hitmen in the loss. The boxscore.

Pyne gets the call for the Pats

With injuries to both Regina Pats regulars Matthew Kieper and Drew Sim, Kelton Pyne made his first start for the blue and white. While he lost 6-3 to the Edmonton Oil Kings, the 16-year-old stopped 36 of 42 shots he faced which included a penalty shot stop against Dylan Guenther.

Fix-Wolansky makes NHL debut and scores first goal

Trey Fix-Wolansky (Edmonton 2016-19) who was recalled yesterday from the Cleveland Monsters on an emergency basis, made his NHL debut with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday in a 5-4 win over the Washington Capitals.

In just 5:23 of ice time… just so happened to score his first goal in his debut…

The 204th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft (Columbus) is in his third season with the Monsters. This season he has 17 points (9G-8A) in 22 games.

The 22-year-old Fix-Wolansky played his entire three-year DUB career with his hometown Oil Kings where he skated in 206 games collecting 245 points (93G-152A).

Perpeluk reassigned to Mavericks

Reid Perepeluk (Prince George, Brandon 2017-21) was sent down from the Stockton Heat (AHL) to the Kansas City Mavericks (ECHL). In his two-game stint with the Heat, he had no points and two penalty minutes. With the Mavericks he has three points, all assists, in 24 games with the ECHL club.

The Yorkton, SK product played 140 DUB games with the Cougars and Wheat Kings where he had 31 points (14G-17A).

Krebs called up to Sabres

Peyton Krebs (Kootenay/Winnipeg 2016-21) was recalled from the Rochester Americans by the NHL’s Sabres. The Okotoks. AB product has played games with Vegas Golden Knights, Henderson Silver Knights, Rochester Americans, and Buffalo Sabres. In nine games with the Golden Knights, he was held off the scoresheet and with the Silver Knights he had five points in a pair of games.

He was then traded to the Sabres where he has had more opportunities to shine. With the Sabres, he has played 11 games where he has five points (3G-2A) and with the AHL’s Americans he has 15 points (4G-11A) in 18 games.

The now 21-year-old played his DUB career with the ICE where he was captain for the final three seasons in the league. in 199 games he had 231 points (62G-169A).

Tendeck called up to Roadrunners

David Tendeck (Vancouver 2015-20) was recalled by the Tuscon Roadrunners of the AHL from the Rapid City Rush (ECHL). The North Vancouver, BC product has been up and down between the two clubs multiple times this season but has yet to appear for the Roadrunners. With the Rush, he has played 17 games with a 4-12-1 record with a 3.54 GAA and ,902 SV%.

The four-year DUB netminder played 145 games going 72-54-6-4 with a 2.96 GAA, .905 SV% and 10 shutouts.

Wardley back to Steelheads

Evan Wardley (Seattle 2010-15) was released from his professional tryout with the Texas Stars (AHL) and will return to the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL). In two games with the Stars, he had two penalty minutes. With the Steelheads he has three assists in 14 games. The 27-year-old defenseman also had a tryout with the Syracuse Crunch where he had an assist in four games.

The Calgary product played his full DUB career with the Thunderbirds where he had 40 points (9G-31A) in 208 games.

Skinner recalled by Oilers

Stuart Skinner (Lethbridge, Swift Current 2014-18) was recalled by the Edmonton Oilers from their farm club in Bakersfield, the Edmonton product has split his time between the NHL and AHL. In 12 games with the Oilers, he has a 5-6-0 record with a 2.85 goals against average and .908 save percentage. With the Condors, he has an 8-0-2 record in 10 games with a 1.97 GAA and .928 SV%.

He played 207 DUB games (182 with the Hurricanes, 25 with the Broncos) going 104-72-9-6 with a 3.22 GAA, .908 SV% and 12 shutouts.

Leason to the Bears

Brett Leason (Tri-City, Prince Albert 2015-19) was reassigned by the Washington Capitals to their farm club in Hershey. In 33 games with the Caps, he has six points (3G-3A) and in six games with the Bears, he has a goal.

The Calgary-born forward played for the Americans and Raiders where he came into his own late in his career. In 190 DUB games, he had 140 points (60G-80A).

Kelly recalled by Ottawa

Parker Kelly (Prince Albert 2015-19) was recalled by the Ottawa Senators from their AHL club in Belleville. The 22-year-old forward from Camrose, AB has split his time between the two Senator clubs. With Ottawa, he has played 11 games where he has two assists (1G-1A) and with Belleville, he has nine points (2G-7A) in 23 games.

Kelly played his entire DUB career with the Raiders where he had 188 points (93G-95A) in 273 games while serving as an alternate captain his last two seasons.

Cholowski waived by Capitals

Dennis Cholowski (Portland/Prince George 2017-18) was waived by the NHL’s Washington Capitals in seven games with the Caps, he has one assist. The four-year pro has 111 games in the NHL where he has 28 points (10G-18A).

The defenseman from Langley, BC played just one season in the DUB that he split between the Winterhawks and Cougars. In 69 games he averaged almost a point-per-game with 66 points (14G-52A).

Sautner, Juulsen recalled by Vancouver

Defensemen Ashton Sautner (Edmonton 2011-15) and Noah Juulsen (Everett 2012-17) were both recalled by the Vancouver Canucks from the AHL’s Canucks.

The 27-year-old Sautner a 27-year-old defenseman has six points (1G-5A) in 25 games with Abbotsford. The Flin Flon, MB product played his entire four-year DUB career with the Oil Kings where he played 265 games picking up 117 points (24G-93A).

Juulsen, the former first-round NHL pick (26th overall, Montreal in 2015) has been shuffled between the NHL and AHL multiple times this season. He has played five games in Vancouver this season where he has no points. In 27 games for Abbotsford, he has 10 points (2G-8A) and 17 penalty minutes. The defenseman from Surrey, BC played his DUB career with the Silvertips where he had 124 points (30G-94A) in 240 games.
