Byram, Focht, and Foote lead Canada to victory over Sweden 

Hockey Canada played their third game at the World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, Michigan picking up a 5-2 victory over Sweden on Friday. Vancouver Giants defenseman Bowen Byram led the way among WHL players with two assists while Calgary Hitmen forward Carson Focht had a goal and Kelowna Rockets forward Nolan Foote registered an assist. Canada returns to action on Saturday in the final game of the Showcase against their American rivals.

Hlinka Gretzky Cup Captains named 

With the Hlinka Gretzky Cup set to kick off on Monday, Hockey Canada has named their captains for the tournament. Edmonton Oil Kings forward Jake Neighbours and Prince Albert Raiders defenseman Kaiden Guhle will both be wearing an ‘A’ when Canada kicks off the tournament against Finland.

Blazers’ Finten leading U-16 Development Camp 

Kamloops Blazers prospect Fraser Minten is lighting the lamp at BC Hockey’s U-16 Provincial Camp taking place in Shawinigan Lake. The Vancouver, BC native has five goals through four games with the camp concluding on Saturday. The Blazers selected Minten in the fourth round of this year’s WHL Bantam Draft. The five-foot-ten forward who weighs 161 pounds had 15 goals and 50 assists in 29 games with the West Vancouver Academy Bantam Prep last season.

Rebels to host Oilers vs. Flames prospect game 

The Centrium at Westerner Park, home of the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels, will yet again play host to a Battle of Alberta Young Guns Game as the Edmonton Oilers are set to take on the Calgary Flames on September 7th.
