DUB’s Daily Dose: Hamonic traded to Senators, Usau signs entry-level deal with Lightning, and more!

 

Hamonic traded to the Senators

31-year-old Travis Hamonic (Moose Jaw, Brandon 2006-10) was traded by the Vancouver Canucks to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a third-round pick in 2022. The defenseman has played a pair of games with AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks where he has one assist. With Vancouver he has played 24 games where he as seven points (3G-4A).

The St. Malo product played 181 DUB games where he had 109 points (29G-80A).

Gibb retires

29-year-old Dan Gibb (Prince George 2009-13) has retired from hockey. The defenseman has played the last three seasons with Amiens (France, Ligue Magnus) where he had seven points (7A) in 36 games in 2021-22.

The Cranbrook, BC product played 266 career DUB games with the Cougars where he tallied 33 points (8G-25A).

Usau signs entry-level deal with Lightning

Ilya Usau (or Usov; Prince Albert 2019-20) signed an entry-level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 20-year-old forward played the 2021-22 season with the KHL’s Dinamo Minsk where he had 26 points (9G-17A) in 40 games.

In his lone DUB season with the Raiders, the Minsk, Belarus product had 52 points (22G-30A) in 58 games.

Leschyshyn reassigned to Silver Knights

What seems to be an ever-occurring move, Jake Leschyshyn (Regina, Lethbridge 2014-19) has been reassigned by the Vegas Golden Knights to the Henderson Silver Knights. He has spent time with both clubs this season where he has played 27 games with Vegas where he has five points (1G-4A). With Henderson, he has played 32 games and has 26 points (13G-13A).

The five-year DUB forward played 257 games (mostly with the Pats before finishing with the Hurricanes) where he collected 180 points (85G-95A).

Elmer returned to Icemen

Jake Elmer (Regina, Kootenay, Lethbridge 2014-19) was returned to the Jacksonville Icemen by the Hartford Wolf Pack after being recalled on March 18. With the Wolf Pack, Elmer has one assist in 10 games. With the ECHL club, he has 28 points (16G-12A) in 41 games.

Elmer started his DUB career with the Pats before being moved to the Ice before ending his career playing his best two seasons both with the Hurricanes. He had 134 points (64G-70A) in 204 games, 118 points in his time with the Canes.

Pouliot waived by Golden Knights

Three days after signing with the Vegas Golden Knights, Derrick Pouliot (Portland 2009-14) was waived by the NHL team. The Estevan, SK product had signed an AHL contract with Vegas’ AHL club the Henderson Silver Knights. The 28-year-old defenseman has played 42 games with Henderson where he has 19 points (2G-17A). In a pair of games with the Golden Knights, he picked up a helper.

Pouliot played his entire DUB career patrolling the blueline with the Winterhawks where he appeared in 247 games and provided some offense picking up 205 points (42G-163A).

Leason recalled by Capitals

Brett Leason (Tri-City, Prince Albert 2015-19) was recalled by the Washington Capitals from the Hershey Bears. In 36 games with the Capitals, he has six points (3G-3A) and in 15 games with the Bears, he has four points 2G-2A).

The Calgary-born forward played for the Americans and Raiders where he came into his own late in his career. In 190 DUB games, he had 140 points (60G-80A).
