Top Prospects game rosters named

Moose Jaw Warriors Denton Mateychuk was named captain for Team White for the CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game on Wednesday, March 23 in Kitchener, ON. He will be joined by seven other DUB players on Team White. Forwards Conor Geekie (Winnipeg ICE), Reid Schaefer (Seattle Thunderbirds), and Jagger Firkus (Moose Jaw Warriors); defensemen Mats Lindgren (Kamloops Blazers), Owen Pickering (Swift Current Broncos), and goaltenders Mason Beaupit (Spokane Chiefs) and Tyler Brennan (Prince George Cougars) will join him.

Seven DUB players will represent Team Red. forwards Josh Filmon (Swift Current Broncos), Jordan Gustafson (Seattle Thunderbirds), Fraser Minten (Kamloops Blazers), Matthew Savoie (Winnipeg ICE), and Matthew Seminoff (Kamloops Blazers); defenseman Kevin Korchinski (Seattle Thunderbirds) and goaltender Reid Dyck (Swift Current Broncos).

In total 15 players will represent the DUB at the game.

Rebels clinch playoff spot

The Red Deer Rebels are the eighth DUB team and third from the Eastern Conference to add an ‘x’ by their name with a 6-3 win over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers. The win gives the Rebels 77 points and a clear eight points up on the fourth place Moose Jaw Warriors (69).

Bains signs entry-level deal with the Canucks

Like the title says, 2001-born Arshdeep Bains signed an entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks. The Red Deer Rebel forward has played in 55 games this season where he has accumulated 82 points (30G-52A). His 52 assists and 82 points lead the DUB.

The Surrey, BC product has played his entire five-year DUB career with the Rebels where he has suited up for 244 games with the club and had counted for 179 points (64G-115A).

Hurricanes relieve Hansen of his duties

Prior to Friday’s contest in Regina, the Lethbridge Hurricanes announced that 5-year assistant coach Jeff Hansen was relieved of his duties.

“Jeff is a good man and a hard worker, and this wasn’t an easy decision, but we felt it was time to make a change,” said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt in a club release. “We weren’t happy with the development of our defence and the accountability of our blueline.

We’d like the thank Jeff for his tireless work over his five years with the organization and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”

Former Hurricane Mezei passes away

The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced the passing of Shawn Mezei (Lethbridge 2001-06) Friday night. The 36-year-old from Tabor, AB played 116 games as a defenseman with the Hurricanes where he had 14 points (2G-12A).

Thompson recalled by Vegas, again

Logan Thompson (Brandon 2014-18) has been shuffled back to the Vegas Golden Knights from the Henderson Silver Knights, a move that has happened multiple times this season. The 24-year-old goalie has played a majority of the 2021-22 season with Henderson where he has played 26 games going 13-9-5 with a 2.77 goals-against average and .920 save percentage with a pair of shutouts. In two appearances with Vegas, he is 1-1-0 with a 2.07 GAA and .935 SV%.

The Calgary product played his entire 122 game DUB career with the Wheat Kings going 63-41-10 with a 3.26 GAA, .905 SV%, and 4 shutouts for the Manitoba club.

Langhamer extends with Ilves

Marek Langhamer (Medicine Hat 2012-15) has signed a one-year contract extension with Ilves Tampere of Finland’s Liiga. The 27-year-old netminder is in his first season in Finland and has a 13-5-3 record in 22 appearances to go with a 2.62 GAA and .906 SV%.

In three DUB seasons, all with the Tigers, Langhamer played 120 games where he compiled a 68-42-7 record with a 2.86 GAA, .905 SV%, and six shutouts.
